Track Premiere: Andreya Triana – ‘Song for a Friend’

As an insight into just how things have changed for Brighton-based soulstress Andreya Triana, ‘Song for a Friend’ is second to none. When we last caught up with her in Notion 047 (way back in 2k10, kids), the nascent songwriter and Bonobo collaborator was hot off the heels of her breakout hit, ‘Lost Where I Belong‘: a song that for all its buoyancy and breeziness, depicted Triana as, well, a bit of a lost soul.

Flash forward three years though, and ‘Song for a Friend’ gives us the first glimpses of a stronger, more defiant Triana: here she’s unafraid to let her fragility truly shine through against a starker backdrop of minimally adorned, glistening piano chords. Where once she was a wandering star, now she’s the comforting force offering a helping hand to a friend who’s hit bad times; like chicken soup for the soul music crowd.

Andreya Triana headlines the Union Chapel on May 31st. You can pick up tickets here.
