News: Independent Label Market to return to London

In our digital age of streaming and downloads, it’s easy to lose sight of the more social side of music retail. It’s tragic to think most of today’s young won’t remember a time when records were bought in a face-to-face exchange, and people came together to celebrate music collectively, rather than as individuals behind their computer screens. Luckily for everyone’s sake, the UK independent label community doesn’t plan to let go of that culture without a fight. The event now in its 4th year, Saturday July 13th will see the glorious Independent Label Market return to Old Spitalfields Market, where the heads of over 50 of the UK’s greatest indie record labels – supported by the Association of Independent Music (AIM) - will come together to sell their new, catalogue and rare releases directly to the public.

Among those manning the booths on the day will be the heads of XL, Bella Union, Domino, Matador, 4AD, PIAS, Lex, Chess Club……. Seriously, if I go on my head might just implode. This is a massive deal, people. As if that weren’t enough, The Quietus will be hosting a specially curated micro-label stall featuring the next big names in the industry, AND the event will see a host of yet-to-be-announced artist appearances. There’ll also be screenprints, posters, boutique record decks and high end audio equipment available from East London PrintmakersUK Poster Association and Rega Research Ltd. If the AIM logo’s anything to go by, there’ll be smiles all round. I know I’ll be at the front of the queue asking Simon Raymonde why he hasn’t responded to any of my demo tapes.

For more updates, join the Independent Label Market Facebook event.
