Interview: HEALTH

Never afraid to push boundaries in their music, performance, or outfits, LA noise rockers HEALTH have earned a reputation for doing things differently. To give you an idea, as part of the promotion for 2009 album Get Color, the band offered locks of their hair and posters autographed in blood as prizes in a sweepstakes contest. This June sees HEALTH returning to the UK, bringing with them a series of new songs from their upcoming studio album. Ally Russell caught up with bassist John Famiglietti for a quickfire Q&A. His answers were just as direct and visceral as his music…

PlanetNotion: Is there anything in particular that you’re looking forward to doing whilst in Europe?

John Famiglietti: Hearing the word whilst used in earnest.

PN: What do you want people to take away from your shows?
JF: Merchandise.

PN: What do you hope to get in return from the audience?
JF: Unconditional surrender

PN: A great show you’ve seen yourself?
JF: Dimebag Darrell‘s last show with Damage Plan.

PN: Can you give us any clues about the new record?

JF: It’s a concept album about concept albums.

PN: Has your soundtrack work for Max Payne 3 fed into it at all?

JF: We discovered a lot of new tricks trying to create enough musical content for the game. So we’ve used some of those sounds on the record.

PN: If you could soundtrack any game, what would it be?

JF: Tetris. Best game of all time. Although it would be hard to fuck with the O.G Russian jam.

PN: HEALTH is a bitch to Google. Was this intentional?

JF: Nope. Just a fuck up.

PN: What would you be doing if not playing in HEALTH?
JF: Trying to get used to living with my parents again.
