News: Lorde announces ‘Tennis Court’ EP

At just 16 years old, New Zealander Ella Yelich-O’Connor (AKA Lorde) is the kind of talent I would hate out of jealousy, weren’t she so lovably awesome. My brother even sent me her debut EP ‘The Love Club’ all the way from Australia with the note “why can’t you be this cool”; I’m not even joking. Outside of the Russell clan, Lorde has grabbed the attention of everyone from Grimes and Sky Ferreira to Perez Hilton and Buzzfeed; attention that is absolutely warranted. Her latest EP, ‘Tennis Court’, certainly lives up to the hype. The standout track has got to be Lorde’s cover of The Replacements classic ‘Swingin’ Party’. It might even be better than the Kindness version. Maybe. But that’s not to say Ella’s own compositions are any less impressive. The titular track captures the 16 year old’s sharp observations of teenage life, beating even Rebecca Black at her own game. Anyway, I’m going to stop trying to make jokes, lest I lower the tone of this truly remarkable release. Check it out right here, right now.
