Guest Mix: Parachute Youth

Having become one of the most talked-about production duos around on the back of their debut single, the hypnotic ‘Can’t Get Better Than This‘, last year, Australian duo Parachute Youth are set for a big summer on the festival circuit. The pair – comprised of Matt KVon and Jonny Castro – have even gone so far as to move to Europe especially to take in as many shows as they can, which currently includes appearances at Wanderlust in Paris, Wiltshire’s Fieldview and the Urban Art Forms festival in Graz.

On their guest mix for PlanetNotion, the Parachute Youth boys have selected a scattering of carefully selected tracks that mold a variety of forms – from downtempo electronica to afro-pop – into a constantly shifting, viscous take on deep house. Whether that be in the way that The Very Best‘s tribal chants are synced to imported, stuttering beats on French Fries‘ remix of ‘Warm Heart of Africa‘, or how Dmitry Fyodorov‘s techno musings are converted into something far more contemplative – but still very danceable – on a Boeoes Kaelestigen reworking. It’s a mix that serves as a potent reminder of not only the malleability of deep house, but how downright good it is.

Below, you can also check out a video diary of how the Antipodean duo have found their time in London so far:
