BOTW Playlist: Daughn Gibson

Topping off our week-long delve into the somnambulist, prairie ballads of Pennsylvania’s Daughn Gibson, the man himself put together a playlist of the tracks that have been informing his late night tales of small-town life. The eclectic nature of Gibson’s – real name: Josh Martin – selections should come as no surprise given the way in which country and electronica, folk and dubstep, dance in unison on his two full-length’s to date: 2012′s All Hell and this year’s Me Moan.

What Gibson’s playlist reveals is a man truly in love with sound, in all its forms and guises. Whether that be the brutal, power electronics of prominent noise artist Prurient, the Americana-laced alt-folk of Hiss Golden Messenger or the southern hip-hop of perennial jailbird Lil Wayne, Gibson is capable of taking influence from a plethora of rather disparate sources and forging them into a cohesive, masterful sound. Me Moan is the perfect precedent of this.
