BOTW Video: Snow Ghosts – ‘Murder Cries’

Without doubt one of the most stark and evocative clips we’ve seen all year, London electronic, dark folk duo Snow Ghosts‘ video for ‘Murder Cries‘ is shadowy, poetic and rich in resonance – just like the track itself, which is taken from the pair’s recently released debut album, A Small Murmuration.

Set against a pitch black backdrop, it sees a presumably condemned woman – a murderer, we suspect – on the run from a pair of potential persecutors, eventually finding herself caught and brought to the scrutiny of a barking nun and a particularly merciless priest. While we won’t spoil its rather bloodthirsty, unsettling conclusion for you, let’s just say that it perfectly fits with Augustus Ghost‘s sanguine, Poe-like lyrical bent: rife with murders of crows and, in one especially strange instance, “drinking the tears from their beady eyes”. It doesn’t come much more unnerving than that, like reading The Premature Burial or The Raven alone on a dark, windy night.
