PFW SS14: Jean Paul Gaultier Homme

Good old Gaultier. Over the past decade or so, he seems to be cementing his place as the Westwood of Paris, fusing punk cues with tailored edges, and playing with sexuality, structure and pattern to create a collection that could be no-one else’s but his own – or Westwood’s. Pinstripes, oversize collars and luxely over-the-top patterned fabrics reference ol’ Viv, but have a distinctly Gallic twist to them – in this case Gaultier’s use of panelling cuts garments and indeed looks in half, creating a striking set of looks that feel youthful and vibrant, but also showcase a set of wearable pieces that needn’t shock as much as one might think. Nice work Jean-Paul.
