Guest Playlist: Syron

This week on PlanetNotion, we’re offering a selection of the hottest new acts on the festival circuit this year the chance to shout about the things they love. From a playlist of Bondax‘s festival party-starters to a run-through of just where Wolf Alice get all that energy from, all of these features were originally featured in the digital edition of our Summer Festival Guide, which you can download for free on iPad, here, and Windows 8, here. Concluding the week, we’ve got a playlist of summertime sweetness courtesy of Syron: may the good times roll!

Let’s face it, we’ve all had that girl in our school, college or office, that we adored from afar and always dreamt of making a mixtape for. Well, for all you potential Syron-suitors out there, the prodigal South London songstress – real name: Catherine Daisy Syron Russell – has offered up a selection of the tunes that will be blaring from her speakers this summer.

Whether dabbling with blissful melancholy on Kaytranada’s deep reimagining of ‘On & On’, or jiving into a frenzy against the snarky sass of Brooke Candy’s ‘Don’t Touch My Hair Hoe’, if there’s one over-arching theme to Syron’s selection, let it be thus: when the sun hits your Ray-Bans and you’ve got these scorchers in your headphones, you will feel cool as hell.

Aiding you along the way on that rocky path to musical perfection this summer, there are the Balearic beats of Hannah Wants and Chris Lorenzo’s ‘Girls’, a killer house cut that Syron describes as, “making me wish I was by a pool, dancing in the sun”.

Alternatively, should you find yourself wanting to raise the roof on a friend’s house party, she’s got you covered there too. The feel good vibes of Robin Thicke – alongside T.I. and Pharrell (of course he’d be in here somewhere) – on the now ever-present and controversy-ridden ‘Blurred Lines’ perfectly mixes a lethal cocktail of Caribbean breeziness and frat boy cheek. Whatever your flavour, there’s something for everyone here; be they the hardcore club animals, the beachside relaxers, or the aspiring DJ who just wants his mix to catch the ear of that special someone.
