Preview: A. Sauvage AW13

British designer, Adrien Victor Sauvage’s new AW13 Menswear collection sees him draw inspiration from artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Designed for House A. Sauvage – established in early 2010 – the new aspirational collection see’s Sauvage explore the concept of captains and natives, and draws upon 70s graffiti and pop art.

Continuing to blur the line between day and evening wear, Sauvage revisits the suit, and incorporates tailored pieces with raglan sleeves and complex internal detail. Evening wear has been toyed with, and sees traditional fastenings be replaced with hook-and-eye closures, and external pockets removed. The collection’s colour pallet ranges from white and light grey through to orange, brown and black. The range is highly textured, and showcases a variety of cloths including casentino wool, water-shrunk nubuck leather and silk twill panels. Sauvage’s AW13 collection sees repeated lines echoed throughout, from construction to print. Referencing the loose, raw and spontaneous style of Basquiat’s artwork, Sauvage is abiding to his philosophy ‘Dress easy’, as he has quickly become synonymous with understated luxury and a no-nonsense approach to men’s fashion.
