BEAUTIFY: Looking after dyed hair

I’ve just dyed my hair. It looks super glossy, I love the colour and I feel like the world is my oyster. Then I remember. Oh yeah- this probably won’t last long. Dang. I was so ready to take over the world.

Sound familiar? Um yuh. We know that looking after dyed hair is vital in the upkeep, but we wanted to know the best products to do so and the most hassle free way to keep your colour (and your hair, for that matter) looking healthy.

As ever, Aveda have got it covered. The Color Conserve range uses plant based ingredients such as Babassu Betaine that is able to gently wash the hair without damaging the colour, plus the conditioning helps to lock colour into the hair. Full of botanicals (as everything Aveda is) the Color Conserve products pack of powerful blend of antioxidants, green tea and Vitamins A, C and E to protect your hair from damaging effects of free radicals (that’s pollution, smoke, stress…). Oh and it’s got built in natural UV absorbers so your hair is protected from the word ‘wash’.

Notion tried and tested: Color Conserve Shampoo, £17 & Color Conserve Conditioner, £19

Next up? Bumble and bumble obviously. The Mending Complex is as good on un-dyed hair as dyed hair as the leave in treatment penetrates deep into the hair to seal each cuticle to not only mend but also protect the hair from further damage. £25.50 for 125ml

And since we’re talking leave in treatments, we urge you to try Joico’s K-PAK. Don’t be turned off by the simplistic packaging- this stuff is LUXURY. And it’s all down to the huge amount of Quadramine Complex in each product (with the most in the Reconstructor). Smells good, does good and doesn’t break the bank. Win, win and win.

Joico Deep Penetrating Reconstructor, £15.95 & Joico Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil £16.95

Andddd we’re back to more Aveda and Bumble (with good reason, though). The Bumble and bumble Mending Shampoo will start your day off to a good start- especially when followed by Aveda’s Daily Color Protect, whose Larch Tree extract helps seal in colour for up to six weeks.

But what about when your hair just starts growing. It’s pretty impossible to stop that. That’s when Alterna’s 2 Minute Root Touch Up becomes your life saver. A one-wash wonder, the colour stays temporarily locked onto the hair until your next wash. You apply the formula to dry, clean hair- allow it to dry, and style as usual! Plus it comes in a whole range of colours. You’re welcome, guys. £24.95
