Ella Selects: LFW SS14 Preview

Every season, London’s fashion designers grow, morph and reinterpret their collections, importing fresh new ideas, pushing themselves in new directions and developing their signature looks to create what is the world’s most exciting, creative fashion week. And every season, we’re stunned and thrilled by what we see. For September’s womenswear shows, we decided to bring in a bit of outside perspective, and gave the superstar blogger ELLA CATLIFF a call to find out what her top ten most anticipated catwalk shows are going to be.

1. Antipodium

While the name of Antipodium’s AW13 collection, “Sex, Lies and CCTV”, didn’t exactly sound like my cup of tea (my style is probably more “Blouses, Cocktails and anything involving Glitter”), I absolutely loved it. PVC skater dresses, fur Peter Pan collars… It was preppy chic with a hint of kink and absolute genius. Hence why I’m *beyond* excited to see what they deliver for next Summer.

2. Simone Rocha

Son of the legendary John Rocha and fashion’s current designer darling for several seasons and counting now, Simone somehow manages to do feminine, exquisite gorgeousness with an edge. Having basically kickstarted the pink-for-winter trend everyone’s raving about (she totes got there before Phobe Philo) I can’t wait to see if she can do it again next season…

3. Burberry

Burberry Prorsum Womenswear Spring Summer 2013 Collection

Wonderful though the clothes inevitably are, it’s the sheer, unadulterated spectacle of the Burberry show I look forward to months in advance. I can’t even begin to guess what Christopher Bailey – a man who literally, and figuratively ‘makes it rain’ – has planned for September.

4. Eudon Choi

Love Eudon. Love his work. Especially love the fact he owns a Schnauzer. But pampered pooches aside, Eudon Choi has killed it these past few seasons and the introduction of knitwear in his AW13 was simply sublime.

5. Christopher Kane

Look 19a

Last season’s show was EPIC! Held atop the Corn Exchange, Salma Hayek and Donatella Versace on the #FROW not to mention his 60 plus looks, each more gobsmackingly brilliant than the one before. Surely the Kering group’s investment can only take things to the next dizzying level of awesome this time around?

6. Holly Fulton

Holly Fulton AW13 Look 7

As a certain Notion Magazine editor once told me, if Holly made clothes for boys he’d never wear anything else. Well, she doesn’t, hard luck. But she does make fabulously tongue-in-cheek, colour popping playful collections for us ladies and I for one am dying to see what Holly does next.

7. Mulberry

I’m a sucker for a Brit heritage brand and Mulberry handbags, clothes and just about everything else are my kryptonite. Plus, this is Creative Director Emma Hill’s swansong collection for the label (sob!) and I suspect she’ll really pull out all the stops.

8. Markus Lupfer

Everyone knows Markus Lupfer’s playfully embellished knitwear. Much to my eternal shame, I only got familiar with his equally covetable RTW this season and am now criminally obsessed. For SS14 I expect sparkles and colour clashes underpinned by immaculate tailoring and dare say I won’t be disappointed.

9. Roksanda Ilincic

With a Mayfair boutique in the works, Roksanda has officially hit the big league. For a designer who’s fame and fortune comes from concocting cocktail creations fit for (and worn by) First Ladies, the PVC and green fur on her AW13 catwalk was one hell of a bold move and I’m very intrigued to see where she takes it next season.

10. Charlie May

Despite having only graduated 3 YEARS AGO Charlie May has made major moves towards establishing a brand with serious clout. Her super luxe minimalist creations almost make me want to burn my own rainbow hued wardrobe. Plus, Charlie May’s still just about new enough to be considered under-the-radar so knowing and loving her designs let’s me kid myself I’m vaguely cool, for now at least.
