BOTW Playlist: Shine 2009

Rounding out our week spent celebrating the return of Helsinki’s Shine 2009 and their fantastic sophomore album, Our Nation, we asked the duo to put together a playlist of ten tracks that have shaped them as musicians. The album itself, which drops October 14 via Modular and Cascine, sees the pair – comprised of old friends Sami Suova and Mikko Pykäri – continue to trade in their oh-so-addictive blend of Balearic sounds, alt-pop, hip-hop beats and jazzier tinges, but with an increased exploration of their national identity as Fins. No, it’s nothing jingoistic, just a considered pondering of what the concept of country means in an increasingly globalised world.

But, I digress. Have a listen below to the ten cuts selected by the Shine boys, which include classic cuts from George Michael to Laurel Halo, more recent treasures from Julia Holter and Slava, and a great local tip in the form of Finnish rapper Tuuttimörkö:

Our Nation is available from October 14 on Modular/Cascine. You can pre-order it here.
