When we first laid ears on ‘Tomorrow‘, the latest track to be unveiled from the elusive Ofei‘s forthcoming London EP, it sent wave after wave of shivers down our spines. Dominated by jangling piano chords and Ofei’s crisp, cutting vocals, listening back to it is still a slightly jarring experience; but it’s one well worth cherishing, like splashing cold water on your face after a long night.
The track’s accompanying video continues the gradual revelations trickling out around the Ofei enigma as we’re treated to more partial shots of the mysterious vocalist, interspersed with a plethora of suggestive imagery that seems to hint at the dreadlocked man’s background: photos of a child that could be him, passing shots of treasured records. Every element of Ofei’s image has been so carefully cultivated since he first emerged in 2012, and this is no exception: it draws you in and keeps you guessing until the very end. A year down the line since we first introduced you to Ofei, he’s still got us gripped, falling off the edge of our seats wondering what he’ll do next; the way only the best ones do.
