Preview: Snowbombing 2014

As the nights start to draw in and the days only get damper, we here at Notion HQ once again find our thoughts lingering on an escape from the day-to-day drudgery of life in the British drizzle. No, we’re not planning an escape to a Caribbean beach or the Riviera, we like to do our winter holidays right and that means plenty of fresh powder (of the snowy variety, of course), crisp mountain air and, obviously, music galore. With that in mind, over the course of the next week on PlanetNotion, we’re going to be previewing the best that this winter’s festival season has to offer. So, don your skis or snowboard, grab a buttered rum and join us for alpine – or further afield if you’re feeling especially crazy – jams aplenty. We’re kicking things off with Austria’s raucous Snowbombing – see you on the piste.

Where: Mayrhofen, Austria
When: 7-12 April, 2014
Cost: From £219 + booking fee. (For accommodation and passes).
Website: www.snowbombing.com

The Lowdown:
With a reputation for being one of the winter festival season’s wildest weeks, we’d be remissed not to tell you that this ain’t one for the faint of heart. Hedonistic doesn’t even begin to describe it; with open-air forest raves, miles of unblemished runs just waiting for your discovery and the added incentive of an optional cross-country road trip organised by the festival, Snowbombing really does have it all. You have been warned.

The Locale:
Set in the gorgeous alpine retreat of Mayrhofen in Austria, Snowbombing can offer you the country’s steepest piste (definitely not one for post-rave exploration), a 3286m glacier and 43 restaurants ranging from the bizarrely-titled UFO Pizzeria to the five-star Sieghard. It doesn’t come much better than this, folks.

The Line-Up:
Acts already confirmed for 2014′s festivities include Carl Cox, Nic Fanciulli, Shy FX, MistaJam, Scuba, Will Saul, Dusky, Bicep, DJ EZ and Gorgon City.

The Luxuries:
For those who fancy putting in some quality R+R between the pistes and the parties, why not try one of Mayrhofen’s 100 (!) saunas? Or, how about a trip to the saltwater pool, steam bath, inhalation cave or an underwater massage? They’re all here and each is a fine way of soothing that cocktail hangover. (The alpine air will help too).
