BEAUTIFY: In the Issue

It’s a universal idea in relationships – the taking or ‘borrowing’ of each other’s belongings – the sight of a girlfriend stealing the boy’s oversized jumper, the boy borrowing her underwear… OK, maybe not the second one. But when it comes to beauty and grooming products, where is the line drawn?

The number of unisex products on the market is on the rise as well as gender targeted ranges (men’s being a fast-growing newcomer), but it doesn’t mean that only the target audience can benefit from their use and you shouldn’t be afraid to give it a go. Aēsops’ Moroccan Neroli post-shave lotion may be man focused but also makes a nice, soothing daily moisturiser for a woman – don’t fear, you won’t suddenly start growing stubble two days down the line.

From moisturisers and cleansers to beauty tools and, dare we say it, even make-up; we take a look at what you might find in your other half’s wash bag and what you can and should consider trying out.

  1. Scents have forever been the easiest thing to steal from your other half. Jo Malone is the go-to for fragrances that work well on both men and women. Create your own identity by mixing two scents. We love Blackberry& Bay paired with a splash of Saffron Cologne for a spicy and vibrant outcome. Blackberry& Bay 100ml for £76 / Saffron Cologne 100ml for £100
  2. Talking of smells… there’s nothing better than a fresh Diptyque candle burning. The new autumn Noisetier candle calms with a warm woody scent. £40
  3. Sure, we’re more used to sharing shower products than face serums, but these will have you fighting over them: bumble and bumble mending shampoo, £23, and Malin + Goetz Rum Body Wash, £28.

5. However, if you prefer investing in a product you can both use anytime of day- head straight to Kiehl’s for their Ultra Facial Cream that’ll have you both glowing for 24hours. 50ml for £24

_MG_6403     6.   After shave lotion? For girls? Well, yes. And we love Aesop’s Moroccan Neroli Post-Shave Lotion. The term ‘Post Shave’ means there’s lots of calming ingredients    (here: neroli orange blossom) that are ideal to use on any blemishes, or dried out sensitive skin. 60ml for £33

     7. If there’s one thing both men and women can agree on, it’s that bright and radiance skin looks good. Using a non-acidic daily peel such as Perricone MD’s Blue Plasma eliminates dead skin cells and hydrates, giving you 100% more chance of that radiance skin tone. 59ml for £78

8. Two places that must be kept in top notch condition on both parties – and believe me, people notice when they’re not – are your eyes and your hands. Keep on hand (no pun intended) Origins No Puffery, £24 and soothe any swollen or tired eyes with the cooling roll on. Keep L’Occitane’s new Shea Butter Collector hand cream, £18 in your bag to keep your fingers from drying out over the winter.
