BOTW Playlist: Clean Bandit

Earlier this week when we caught up with our BOTW, the fast-rising Clean Bandit, the London quartet told us of how their as-of-yet untitled debut album contained a plethora of guest vocalists and contributors; a list that ranged from Minneapolis rap queen Lizzo to UK reggae-head Stylo G. While there’s not a great deal of public knowledge out there yet about the record – outside of rumoured further collaborators and the fact it’ll include the chart-topping ‘Rather Be‘ – the ascendant baroque house four-piece ran us through a list of tracks from those people they’d love to work with, or in some cases already have.

Here’s what Neil Amin-Smith, one half of the group’s string duo alongside Grace Chatto, had to say on the list:

“All the artists on this list are people that we have worked with in the past, or would like to at some point, and pretty much all of them have influenced the music we make in some way or another. These aren’t necessarily our favourite tracks of theirs, just some that have been on my mind recently. ”

You can watch Clean Bandit performing ‘Rather Be’ for Fred Perry Subculture below and check out the playlist after the jump:

Walter Ego – ‘Heaven’

“This is just a beautiful slice of house from a producer who supported us at the Electric in Brixton last year. He’s also done a remix for us of our latest single ‘Rather Be’, and we’ve got some tentative plans of getting in the studio with him one day.”

Drake – ‘Doing It Wrong’

“He’s a lyrical genius and top of our fantasy list of people we’d love to work with one day. Stevie Wonder’s harmonica solo at the end is heartbreaking, and the whole thing is completely gorgeous.”

Craig David – ‘Last Night’

“Another amazing lyricist who, if he can still make stuff like Born to Do It, is someone we’d kill to do a track with.”

MJ Cole Feat. Elisabeth Troy – ‘Crazy Love’

“This classic garage tune has been an inspiration for us on so many levels. The tight pizzicato strings make it flow along so nicely, and the vocal on it is from garage legend Elisabeth Troy, who currently fronts our live shows and will be appearing on our album.”

Gorgon City – ‘Ready for Your Love’

“These guys are on the same label that we started out on, Black Butter, and we collaborated on a track called ‘Intentions‘ with them. They also produced a massive remix of our track ‘Nightingale‘, which we’ve cheekily started using in our live shows.”

Rae Morris – ‘Skin’

“There’s something kind of life-affirming about this new one from Rae, who has provided an incredible vocal for our forthcoming album.”

‘Rather Be’ is available now on Atlantic Records. You can buy it here.
