BEAUTIFY: Tell your Mother…

If you had forgotten (although thanks to a huge amount of advertising from seemingly every brand ever, I hope you haven’t) it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday 30th March. Which means you need to make a big deal out of your mother for a day, tell her she’s great and cook her a meal. It also calls for some sort of present giving- but a specific type.

Being Notion – we’ve gone another way around it – here’s our list of what NOT to tell your mother this Sunday…

Tell her that her home smells: That’s why she needs a candle. A luxurious one at that. Spend big with a Fornasetti Flora Candle, £99 from Liberty- that is also a really beautifully designed pot, which just so happens to have a candle in it. Spend less, but buy a bigger candle (3 wicks!) with NEOM’s Sumptuous Home Candle, £39.50 whose aroma of Neroli will make it one of the best presents ever. For some Neroli with a bit more French in it- the new Néroli & Orchidée Candle from L’Occitane, £24 is just the ticket. The last and most relaxing (and warming) is the Aromatherapy Calming Candle from Neal’s Yard Remedies, £23- if Mum’s stressed out this is essential.

Tell her she smells (‘cos just her home wasn’t enough): Go classic with Chanel No5 (or splash on the new Les Exclusifs fragrances), modern with Aqua Universalis from top nose Maison Francis Kurkdjian, £165, match the candle you bought her with the Néroli & Orchidée scent from L’Occitane, £49 or old school with Penhaligons Lily of the Valley, £85.

If your Mother is a particularly kooky ‘young mum’ then this bright pink and gold bottle won’t phase her. It actually smells great- no surprise since it’s the new Nina Ricci sent La Tentation de Nina, £32.

Tell her she’s stressed out: And therefore needs the entire Stress-Fix collection from Aveda- that’s the bath salts, body lotion and concentrate. Seriously, chill out Mum.

Remind her to wash her hands: Woods of Windsor’s Pomegranate and Hibiscus Moisturising Hand Wash, £3.99 and Liz Earle’s Hand Serum £17.50 should do the trick.

Mum! Stop frowning! Realine Beauty claims to leave you looking younger and happier- which surely is what every Mum wants to be told she isn’t. The frown line stickers are applied to the forehead overnight, £28 per box.

Okay, okay… enough jokes. Mum’s are great- especially on Mother’s Day. So give her a bunch of roses that won’t die in a week, but will sit on her shelf reminder her of how great you are for the rest of the year.

REN skincare’s Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil, £34 , NEOM’s Moroccan Blush Rose Organic Body Oil, £30 and Jurlique’s Rose Body Oil, £38 are all ways she can pamper herself and smell the roses.

Nip & Fab have a dedicated-to-all-things-rose kit, £11.25- complete with body wash, body butter, hand cream, lip butter AND a shower puff.

To more metephorically stuff roses in her face, choose REN’s Rose O¹² Moisture Defence Oil and Jurlique’s refreshing Rosewater Balancing Mist, £16.50 (you can get both the Jurlique body oil and mist as a set especially for Mother’s Day for £42).

Now off you go, choose what you’re going to say (or not say)….
