BOTW Playlist: Ronika

Nottingham pop musician Ronika channels the sunshine in the playlist she’s compiled for the second instalment of this week’s BOTW. Like her own album Selectadisc (out in a fortnight), the playlist effortlessly jumps from one genre to the next.

Right away, the good times beckon as Dutch producer Karmon leads with his glorious ‘80s remix of ‘Where I Stand’, a 2012 funky house number by Fabo (feat. Lostcause). Then, a Mayer Hawthorne remix offers a bit of icky slick RnB, before funny-man Mr Todd Terje rears his head with ‘Oh Joy’ from the recent ‘It’s Album Time’ and Erykah Badu enters the fray with a classic (‘ring ding dong / ring-a-ding ding ding dong’). Ronika’s own ‘Automatic’ appears, and there’s also great stuff from 8-piece Soundway signees Ibibio Sound Machine. Altogether, it’s the perfect consolation for a slightly-greyer-than-hoped-for afternoon.
