Moodboard: Mizan

In celebration of her new track ‘Thru’, the brilliant Mizan shares her inspirations with us.

Nirvana Unplugged – Apologies

This is an MTV Unplugged performance of “Apologies” by Nirvana. The mood of the performance was so sombre and this particular rendition of the song was compelling- in my imagination, it felt as though Kurt was addressing what he ended up doing some months after the session (take his own life).

King Krule

The way that guitar riff builds is almost the best thing I’ve ever heard.

Madonna – Sex Book

Madonna’s Sex Book is offensive to some people, but I discovered it not too long ago and think it’s artfully done and very brave. It’s empowering to see Madonna’s unabashed expression of female sexuality through a process in which she is obviously in control.

Anais Nin

“I disregard the proportions, the measures, the tempo of the ordinary world. I refuse to live in the ordinary world as ordinary women. To enter ordinary relationships. I want ecstasy. I am a neurotic — in the sense that I live in my world. I will not adjust myself to the world. I am adjusted to myself.”

Jean-Michel Basquiat

Jean Michel
Love his work, love his point of view. What else can I say, it’s Jean-Michel Basquiat. I wish he lived longer.

Jimi Hendrix Live at Woodstock ’69
Yes it’s 56 minutes, yes I watched the whole thing multiple times. The magic of Jimi Hendrix.

Rilke – Letters to a Young Poet

Letters to a Young Poet by R.M. Rilke is a must read for all creative minds. I’ve been reading it on long subway rides.
