Drunknmunky unveils spring/summer footwear range
Summer is only lingering around the corner and our feet are already crying out “no more flip-flops.” Dodgy footwear kills the sunshine: yeah, those sandals might be cool and breezy- but they sure are ugly. Confused, lost, angry at what to be wearing this summer semester? Drunknmunky’s Spring/Summer footwear range will sort you out. We’ve already binned last summer's trainers for a new set of Drunknmunky’s. Don’t get us wrong, we’re not fickle, led astray at the first glimpse of a perfect dirt-free high-top. But the new range is that good. Vibrant and innovative, our heart belongs to the unique spirit of Drunknmunky: see you later Mr. Super-brand. The range includes: New England (not-just-a-lace-up), Boston (not-sure-how-I’ll-cope-without-them high-tops), Valencia and Granada (not-wise-to-leave-these-low-cuts-on-the-shelves). Each pair is available in a variety of colour-ways; they’ll be no settling for bland this year. Men and women alike can exhale a sigh of relief: their summer footwear is sorted.
The Nineties Are Vintage
According to Selfriges, in 2010 the Nineties officially become a ‘vintage’ era. So technically that means those black nylon hipsters from Clockhouse you were rockin’ when you were fifteen could soon be making a return. Or earning you big bucks on eBay. This is why for the whole of January Selfridges is partnering with hot vintage store Rellik to present the best of the era that brought us Titanic, N Sync and jungle. Further assistance comes from Beyond Retro, IDEA books and popular Dalston club night Work It, as Selfriges is taken back twenty years and reemerges as a fully stocked 90s pop up shop. Expect original nineties and nineties inspired products spreading across fashion, accessories, lifestyle, beauty, design, music, media and film. Reference points for the nineties product adventure include Grunge, Brit Pop, nearly-there technology, YBAs, Girl and Grrrrl Power, Supermodels and the rise of the ‘Super Brand’. Celebrate the best the nineties still have to offer in-store only at Selfridges, January 2010: • Rellik presents essential designerwear and accessories, including Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaia, Vivienne Westwood and Comme Des Garcons • Beyond Retro present the authentic 90s uniform • IDEA present their edit of the 90s most seminal style publications • Francois Nars exclusively presents his book, 15x15 • M.A.C Creative Director Terry Barber presents an excluisve 90s looks, including the iconic Spice lipliner and Twig lipstick • H.M.V presents the top 50 films of the 90s • Other Criteria present an exclusive YBA collection, including Damian Hirst’s signature spots • Dalston’s original 90s night Work It present an exclusive and limited edition run of T Shirts featuring hip hop's finest - Notorious B.I.G. and Lil' Kim Photos kindly provided by Robert Gunning

INTERVIEW - House of Blue Eyes -
An exclusive interview with Johnny Blue Eyes, creative director of The House of Blue Eyes before his catwalk show during London Fashion week, held at Hanover Square nightclub Jalouse. Johnny greeted me before the show was about to begin as he was being buttoned into a black corset by an assistant as minions of gold clad, half naked models frolicked around the hells of his stiletto boots. His “Disco Children of the Future” were boys and girls slathered in enough gold glitter to kill a horse, the odd bit of arty black paint, and all scantily clad in various Grecian inspired armor, with the odd bit of skin tight lam’e leggings and hot pants. “This collection was inspired by Donna Sommer’s ‘I Feel Love’ and Moloko’s, ‘Sing it Back’. Very much about the time I spent in New York and Ibiza.”From what I could see the collection appeared to be a futuristic fusion of old disco and new house colliding on the creative and unique London dance floor. “The House of Blue Eyes is here to bring love, freedom, fierceness, and hope to the world. The disco children of the House of Blue Eyes are here to help the world shine again! Because I just want to tell everyone to be yourself! Be a true individual! And London is the most amazing place in the world to do this. I’m an old London boy myself and am so happy the House of Blue Eyes is here. We are a designer collective and this set up just would not work anywhere else. We’ve got an amazing team, “he began to beckon to the various harried persons dressing and doing last minute stitching, “ we’ve got Giles Pearson doing womenswear, Mr. Webster in menswear, Carol Wiseman doing jewelry, Sian Thomas: bodywear, Bert with prints, Loren Wood: accessories, Black Pearl doing leather and metal work, and Suzanne Bierne with accessories, and finally S.O.S. Mark who produced The House of Blue Eyes Gold shoes!” In a wide sweep of a leather clad arm Johnny beckoned to a pair of resonating strappy gold heels. “ Gorgeous,” I say, “How many carats?” “ 24 Darling!” As I scribble it down he changes his mind, “Oh actually make it 25!” The show itself could be described as the best party of your life translated onto a catwalk, possibly hosted by Lady Gaga. There was glitter, stomping, dancing, even the mirrored ceiling moved at one point, and of course there was plenty of free drinks. As Johnny says, “ Everything in the world is better in gold.” After such a spectacular exhibition I must confess I’m a believer. --Marshall Johnson

Irregular Choice Party Report
What do you get when you mix the smokin’ vocal stylings of uber cool poet Laura Dockrill, the mellow tones of blonde hippy-chick Polly Scattergood and the usual too-fucking-cool-for-school Shoreditch crew on-a-day-trip-to-Central crowd? The Irregular Choice party, that’s what. Celebrating it’s super sick range of in your face footwear the Carnaby Street institution that is Irregular Choice decided to live up to its reputation by throwing a shindig that was anything but regular. With Radio 1 favourite Gemma Cairney presiding over the whole affair with a microphone in one hand a glass of Lambrini in the other (very Notion favourite and Irregular Choice stockist Emma Bell) spirits were as high as the heels as folks boogied amongst the boots. The man behind the magic, Irregular Choice footwear designer Danny Sullivan spoke to Notion about his vision for the brand and why he feels it’s place on Carnaby Street is so essential, “Irregular Choice is the Viagra of the shoe world, it’s about that perk from a great pair of shoes. Carnaby street is synonymous with London cool and that’s what my brand is all about.” and with Sullivan describing his designs as having “the monopoly on madness” it’s clear ‘understated’ isn’t something to expect from this British eccentric any time soon. Of course, after commenting on the sky high quiff of yours truly, the cockney lyricist Laura Dockrill, fresh from playing summer festival favourite ‘Latitude’, was keen to speak to Notion and when asked how she’d describe her dream pair of shoes said simply, “springs, pink, wings and most importantly NOT Crocs.” Although Gemma Slack was able to one-up her with the same question having already had her own customised dream shoes created by hot footwear designer Terry De’Havilland. As the heaving mass of pissed shoe fans, high on a cocktail of great live music, kick-ass poetry and most importantly awesome footwear, filled out onto Carnaby Street and home to nurse the coming hangover Irregular Choice proved they could match the drama of their designs with the high-octane fun of their party and MAN do these guys know how to throw a party. Check out Irregular Choice on London’s Carnaby Street or on their shit hot new website at IrregularChoice.com --Harry McKinley
