Irregular Choice Party Report
Irregular Choice Party Report
19/08/2009
What do you get when you mix the smokin’ vocal stylings of uber cool poet Laura Dockrill, the mellow tones of blonde hippy-chick Polly Scattergood and the usual too-fucking-cool-for-school Shoreditch crew on-a-day-trip-to-Central crowd? The Irregular Choice party, that’s what. Celebrating it’s super sick range of in your face footwear the Carnaby Street institution that is Irregular Choice decided to live up to its reputation by throwing a shindig that was anything but regular. With Radio 1 favourite Gemma Cairney presiding over the whole affair with a microphone in one hand a glass of Lambrini in the other (very Notion favourite and Irregular Choice stockist Emma Bell) spirits were as high as the heels as folks boogied amongst the boots.

The man behind the magic, Irregular Choice footwear designer Danny Sullivan spoke to Notion about his vision for the brand and why he feels it’s place on Carnaby Street is so essential, “Irregular Choice is the Viagra of the shoe world, it’s about that perk from a great pair of shoes. Carnaby street is synonymous with London cool and that’s what my brand is all about.” and with Sullivan describing his designs as having “the monopoly on madness” it’s clear ‘understated’ isn’t something to expect from this British eccentric any time soon.

Of course, after commenting on the sky high quiff of yours truly, the cockney lyricist Laura Dockrill, fresh from playing summer festival favourite ‘Latitude’, was keen to speak to Notion and when asked how she’d describe her dream pair of shoes said simply, “springs, pink, wings and most importantly NOT Crocs.” Although Gemma Slack was able to one-up her with the same question having already had her own customised dream shoes created by hot footwear designer Terry De’Havilland.

As the heaving mass of pissed shoe fans, high on a cocktail of great live music, kick-ass poetry and most importantly awesome footwear, filled out onto Carnaby Street and home to nurse the coming hangover Irregular Choice proved they could match the drama of their designs with the high-octane fun of their party and MAN do these guys know how to throw a party.
