Re-released as a special edition DVD, this supernatural sob-fest tells the story of a love so powerful it survives beyond the grave. If you ask me, the most ghoulish thing going on in this film is Patrick Swayze’s face. I can’t really put my finger on what it is, but there’s definitely something not quite right about it. Anyway, aside from that this is arguably one of the most popular romantic comedies in modern cinema. Whoopi Goldberg steals the show as a roguish clairvoyant for which she deservedly won an Oscar and there are some really cool bits where the bad guys get dragged down to hell. And if you can make it through to the end with dry eyes then you’re a bigger man than I am. MATT HARVEY
