FunkinYou continue their KOKO residency on February 2nd, with a flurry of pumping house from special guest DJs and underground scene-setters. Playing the first Saturday of every month, FunkinYou’s relationship with the Camden hub has blossomed; with house-head’s flocking to the venue in droves and busting-their-shiznit to the throbbing, funky electro beats on offer. As per-usual the FunkinYou crew is pulling out all the stops, with an exclusive set by regular DJ/Producer Thomas Gold. Having travelled here, there and up-your-stair with the FunkinYou fraternity in 2007, Gold is one of the primary reasons the club-night has become the house connoisseurs choice for filthy, funky electro basslines and pumping tunes. Joining Gold will be a host of top-notch talent from the underground scene, including resident DJ Mr. Arkoss. Not one to beat about the bush, Arkoss delivers everything from deep, soulful house through to rougher-cut, pounding electro tech. Just as long as it’s getting hardcore on the dancefloor, the man’s a happy bunny. Joining both Arkoss and Gold will be Philgood and Ram, and Mario C with their own blend of underground house and deep, dirty basslines. DJs Dennis Veli, Blake Baker, Paul Malcolm: Lenny G and Jim Lansdown, will all be spinning their yarn in the second room, with FunkinYou’s usual foray into house-scene superstardom. And while the beautiful boys and girls are getting familiar on the floor; acts including contortionists, live percussion and trapeze will be creating the ultimate carnival atmosphere through to the early hours of Sunday morn. Trust us; believe us; take our word when we say; February is gonna be a month to remember… even if house ain’t your scene. Saturday 2nd February 2008 10pm – 5.30am KOKO, Camden, London, NW1 7JH Tickets: Members: £12 (B4 12) £15 (After) Non-members: £20

Next month is going to be absolutely filthy. No, that’s not the latest Government warning, it’s news that’s reached Planet Notion of the hottest night at Leeds University’s very own Stylus; where DJ luminaries and electro extraordinaire’s will be filling your ears with raw, unadulterated Filth. Filth have teamed up with Ibiza’s Zoo Project, clubbing website 4 Clubbers, and new-kid on the electro circuit Kim Fai to bring the tangible gut-funk of the Audio Bullys to their rambunctious club night. Salivating? I haven’t had a wet patch like that down my front since that Jessica Alba hot-tub dream. We need not remind you of the Audio Bullys sound, but if you’ve been living in a New-Guinean Pig Shack for the last year, Simon Franklin and Tom Dinsdale are the brains behind the Nancy Sinatra mash-up ‘Shot You Down.’ The Audio Bullys repertoire goes far beyond a number three single however, with multi-genre mixes borrowing from and blending hip-hop, punk, soul and UK garage. No surprise then that their influences are as vast as 60s legends The Kinks to late 70s Ska outfit The Specials. Their contemporary sound, which sweeps between poetic tales of urban life in the smoke to punchy electro, has seen the boys setting-off on global tours, busting up clubs and performing with the unmistakeable Madness. Throw into the mix a penchant for hardcore partying and some brand-spanking new material and February 10th is practically signed and sealed in your 2008 diary. The Audio Bullys will of course be joined by Kim-Fai and Martin Doorly, whilst in the second room Filth will be adding a splash of darkness to proceedings. Expect techno, tech-house and minimal sounds to reverberate from some of the most banging DJs around including The Rejekts, Matt Cooper, Carroline Banx and Luke Pompey. Sunday 10th February 2008 9pm – 3am Stylus, Leeds University, Woodhouse Lane, LS2 9JT Tickets: £12 (1st 500) £15 (2nd 500) £17 http://www.leedstickets.com/ www.filthuk.com Filth are also celebrating their 1st Birthday at the Mint Club, Leeds on 2nd February with Jonathan Ulysses, Danny Freakazoid and Out of Office.

Following on from the riotous shenanigans of December 8th, Bodymusic returns to Brixton venue Plan B next month with a line-up as sweet as a sugar-coated koala bear. It seems the Bodymusic contingent have looked back on 2007, picked-up on the success of a particular night in January and recreated it in all its glory for 2008. Yep, Plan B is going back to its roots as two masters of the house scene make a welcome return. Paul Trouble Anderson and former Loft soldier-in-arms Neil Pierce will be filling the floor with tunes old and new. The lads were major pioneers of the house scene, and will be bringing their sound of the underground forth into a new millennia… well, 2008 anyway. With thirty years in the DJ business, Paul knows how to throw one hell of a night, and with Neil Pierce gaining global recognition for his work in the Fanatix, Plan B promises to be plan A for the house connoisseur. Joining the pair will be Bodymusic regulars John Oudo and Pablo Martinez. The lads have stuck to their roots like a fly on a two-year old flapjack, maintaining their old bravado, refusing to bow to the commercial gravy train and cash-in on their success. Their appeal remains because they’ve failed to distance themselves from the people, the street, the dancefloors, and most importantly the music that they love. Much respect! So expect some old school shit from maestros Anderson and Pierce, who brought their sound to the masses and built it into the multi-million pound industry we know and love (or hate) today. Saturday 12th January 2008 9pm – 5am Plan B, 418 Brixton Road, London , SW9 7AY Tickets: £10 (free before 10.30)

No sooner has the mulled wine been downed, the turkey ingested and the crackers… err cracked, then Boxing Day comes along and it starts all over again. Well this year, as an alternative you can give the stomach a daytime rest, leave the left-over sarni’s to the rest of the family and hit Cream for their Boxing Night 2007. Following on from the esteemed club night’s 15th birthday shenanigans in November, the newly crowned number one DJ Armin Van Buuren makes a welcome return to Nation. The trance DJ and producer will be taking to the decks in the main room, fresh from a sell-out tour of multi-capacity stadiums. Despite this being a far more intimate affair, with untouchable mash-up skills and epic sets, Nation is sure to reverberate to the floor-filling sound of the Dutch maestro. Joining Van Buuren will be fellow Netherlands descendant Sander Van Doorn, one of the latest of the Dutch imports to carve a name out for himself with his tech/trance combos. These sets usually include a mixed, stirred and shaken array of influences; hence why Sander was recently voted No.15 in a recent poll of top DJs in the world right now. Joining the fellow countrymen will be DJ Remy, and Cream luminary Gareth Wyn. Everyone’s a winner! If that wasn’t enough to set the ‘ol pulse racing, over in the Courtyard shenanigans will be cranked up to the max with Cream favourites the Swedish House Mafia. The house holy trinity of Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso have built-up quite a reputation over the years, spinning a yarn that even the most brazen house sceptic has taken note of. Joining the Mafiosi will be regulars on the Cream circuit, Lee Ellis and Anthony Probyn. Furthermore, with over eight hours of top talent, the Annexe will be treated to the awesome D. Ramirez, voted 2007’s best producer and British remixer. The Ivor Novello nominated house/tech extraordinaire will be joined by Tocadisco, Gavyn Mytchel, Sean Hughes and Andy Mac. Rudolph may have been and gone by Boxing Day, but ‘ol Saint Nic is hitting the streets of Liverpool one year early! CREAM BOXING NIGHT @ NATION 10pm – 6am Wednesday 26th December 2007 Nation, Wolstenholme Square, Liverpool , L1 4JJ , Tickets: £26+BF (NUS) / £28+BF

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye, I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye. Yes indeed, Hospitality will this month pack their bags and wave farewell to a six year residency at Herbal. Alas, this is not a time for crocodile tears, no; it’s an occasion to look back and cry ‘hoorah’ for those good times that were had, whilst giving Hospitality the send-off they heartedly deserve. Whilst their massive sweat-fests at Heaven will remain, the Hospitality crew are moving on to bigger and better things – so what better way to welcome in the Christmas joy and go out with a bang than a fuck off big bass bash – nice! Hospitality regulars and the party-hard alike will be treated to one-hell of a night on December 21st, with a whole host of resident DJs from past and present proving beyond reason why the monthly drum and bass night is so widely regarded. As well as the Hospitality faithful, Critical music head honcho Kasra will be spinning some fresh drum and bass goodness, plus an ultra rare back-to-back set from Hospital’s own London Elektricity and Tomahawk. Label owner and one of the original heads from the Hospital Records nights of yonder, these two have set the scene for many on the D&B circuit, with jaunts at Glastonbury and the Big Chill proving beyond reason why they’re at the very top of their game. The boys will be seeing the night out and saying farewell to Herbal with their blistering two-hour back to back session. Sweeet! Meanwhile, somewhere upstairs, Hospital Records chief and funk, soul, badness maestro Chris Goss will be accompanied by Zac Vibert, with the brilliant Riley spinning his yarn for the final freestyle send-off. However, dry those eyes and shed that sad face, as whilst Hospitality at Herbal is going out on a high, they’ll be coming back with a bang in ’08, so keep ‘em peeled! Final Hospitality at Herbal 21st December 2007 12 – 14 Kingsland Road Shoreditch London E2 8DA

So, you’re nursing a New Years Eve hangover and you’re on the mother of all comedowns. You’re trouncing around searching for the nearest kebab shop, trying desperately to recall the events that passed, your bottom lip bleeding from mindless gurning. You don’t know whether the rumble in your tummy is saying ‘no doner’ or ‘yes please.’ What better way to pick yourself back up again than to give the kebab a resounding ‘V’ and pop on down to Ruby Blue in Leicester Square, for the Bless the Funk and Glamhouse New Years Day Party. So you don’t like house? Bah… that doesn’t matter, because there’ll be plenty of funk and R ‘n’ B. So you don’t like funk and R ‘n’ B? Bah… that doesn’t matter, because there’ll be plenty of house. Forget musical chairs my dance luminaries; at this party everyone’s a winner. The mighty Clemy Riley is top of the agenda, the one-man-band of the DJ set. From funky, chunky basslines to soulful ballads, Riley’s mixed and mashed it all. He currently has his fingers in the pie of production, little surprise when you consider a career spanning almost ten years. Together with LikeMindedPeople, Riley will be bringing the masses to Soul Heaven and beyond. They were both members of the Fanatix, delivering house to the masses like a bullet from a gun, and both Sy-Sez and the mighty Neil Pierce are also pumping up for Glamhouse at Ruby Blue. They’ll be joined by the Greek god himself Marky D, delivering everything from prog-house to tech-house, deep-house to bringing down the house! Furthermore, stepping forth for Bless the Funk will be an array of resident DJs. Sammy (Confunktion), D Boogie and Shandaman will be joined by none other than DJ Knowledge - bringing more mash-ups than an East End pie shop. From humble beginnings, DJ Knowledge and Sammy (Confunktion) have brought forward everything from afro-beat, breakbeat and house. On top of this fine array of luminaries, DJ Vibes and DJ Chilli Source will also be supplying beats to all and sundry. So say hello to the second of January with your second hangover of the year. 1st January 2008 Ruby Blue Leicester Place Leicester Square London WC2H 7BP

‘At his feet we humbly fall, crown him, crown him DJ of all.’ Who is he in yonder stall (Remix). Top London venue The End is having a New Years Eve battle of the DJs, with only a selected few being crowned kings of the electro-groove. Yep, some of The End’s most lauded and best-loved DJs are to be pitted against each other in one on one battles across the main room, lounge and AKA. In the main room, and weighing in with a good two tonnes of raving lunacy, old friends of The End Layo and Bushwacka do their badass thing to get yo’ rumps a-movin’. Ahem. Signed up to the clubs esteemed label End Recordings, the boys have been plying their trade since the mid-nineties, treating the ears of the masses to their all-round mash-ups. No stranger to tech-funk, techno and house music, these luminaries are by no means the bookies favourites. In fact it’s going to be a close run battle when they’re pitted against the Sancho Panza crew. Bringing the masses on an epic journey through all things hippety-house, Sancho Panza are known for playing everything from tiny warehouse gigs to the Notting Hill carnival. Let battle commence. Hooouuuuse continues over at AKA with the Freerange label taking on Simple. Label bosses Jimpster and Will Saul will be squaring up with deep, emotional melodic house and techno and disco tunes. Jimpster will be mixing his seminal sound smack-BANG in the face of Mr. Saul, so expect much argy bargy from the house pioneers. Finally, the Lovebox Allstars are up against the Rant DJs over in the lounge. However, we all know that ranting doesn’t win the war; it’s the raving that counts. The Rant DJs are renowned for throwing parties in all manner of establishments; from pubs to clubs, boats and even bowling alleys. More importantly, they’re notorious for their loyal following at The End. From big tunes to rare remixes; house to breaks and drum ‘n’ bass to disco, Lovebox Allstars and the Rant DJs have it all in their repertoire. Twill be tough to call! ‘Till we meet, till we meet, till we meet at The End’s feet, God be with you till we meet again.’ God be with you till we meet again (Remix).
