Next month is going to be absolutely filthy. No, that’s not the latest Government warning, it’s news that’s reached Planet Notion of the hottest night at Leeds University’s very own Stylus; where DJ luminaries and electro extraordinaire’s will be filling your ears with raw, unadulterated Filth.
Filth have teamed up with Ibiza’s Zoo Project, clubbing website 4 Clubbers, and new-kid on the electro circuit Kim Fai to bring the tangible gut-funk of the Audio Bullys to their rambunctious club night. Salivating? I haven’t had a wet patch like that down my front since that Jessica Alba hot-tub dream.
We need not remind you of the Audio Bullys sound, but if you’ve been living in a New-Guinean Pig Shack for the last year, Simon Franklin and Tom Dinsdale are the brains behind the Nancy Sinatra mash-up ‘Shot You Down.’ The Audio Bullys repertoire goes far beyond a number three single however, with multi-genre mixes borrowing from and blending hip-hop, punk, soul and UK garage.
No surprise then that their influences are as vast as 60s legends The Kinks to late 70s Ska outfit The Specials. Their contemporary sound, which sweeps between poetic tales of urban life in the smoke to punchy electro, has seen the boys setting-off on global tours, busting up clubs and performing with the unmistakeable Madness.
Throw into the mix a penchant for hardcore partying and some brand-spanking new material and February 10th is practically signed and sealed in your 2008 diary. The Audio Bullys will of course be joined by Kim-Fai and Martin Doorly, whilst in the second room Filth will be adding a splash of darkness to proceedings.
Expect techno, tech-house and minimal sounds to reverberate from some of the most banging DJs around including The Rejekts, Matt Cooper, Carroline Banx and Luke Pompey.
