| Gucci Sound System, Martelo and MORE! 3 Bar Fire @ Hub, April 26th |
| 09/04/2008 |
![]() I just ruined a perfectly good tea-towel. It was putting out a 3 Bar Fire. It was real big, just like you see in the films. There were loads of stars there too, at the 3 Bar Fire. There were people like Gucci Soundsystem and Martelo. Of course, this is a very poor attempt at using metaphors. In a nutshell, 3 Bar Fire are putting on a night at the Hub in London and it’s set to be pretty hot.
I like Gucci Soundsystem. I’m not overly aware of them, but I like the fact that Ben ‘Fat’ Trucker has had a cool photo taken in front of multicoloured meat. Much revered DJ Riton is ‘Fat’ Trucker’s other half. Anyone who went to Notion’s ‘Stand and Point’ in February will be aware of Riton’s skills behind a deck. Gucci Soundsystem blend electro with disco with excellent results. You should hear their remix of LCD Soundsystem on DFA Records. Amazing. And they have Lou Reed: Vicious on their website, so much respect.
Joe Ransom will be there too! Joe’s residency at Fabric has long been popular with London cats; hot, heavy jams spun out like a pinball wizard, ricocheting from hip hop beats to electro grooves. He also has a Kiss100 show, which is also worth mentioning. Big up!
You want to know all about Martelo? Well what can I say? Old-skool garage? Check. Crunk acapellas? Check. Baile funk? Check. Hip hop attitude? Check. Sinden cohort? Check. All round skill on the one and twos? CHECK! This guy steps the line between badboy bass-wobbling beatery and guzzling ‘80s fiend like a true pro. HOLLA!
Next. Grosvenor will be performing LIVE. We’re talking the kind of ironic-electro pop madness built on the foundations of the leaning tower of Pisa. Wonky electro beats banging heads with everything from Hall and Oates to smooth 70s rock. To give you an idea of the electro madness of Grosvenor, he used to play drums for Hot Chip, so he’s obviously a bit different. In a good way.
Dels will also be live. Currently recording his debut album and drawing on on hip hop and a a load of big beat electro-crunk badness, he’s one not to be missed. If you’ve ever dreamt of drowning in the sea while a load of sharks draw ever closer, you’re along the right lines. Except before the bit where the sharks are about to bite, they decide to do ‘big square, little square, cardboard box’ while you rap about “bouncers” and “raves” and throw the occasional “fuck” into the equation. Which is great!
Hopefully I’ve sold this 3 Bar Fire night to you. If not I’ve failed, and I’ll crack open another beer and lock myself in the spare room again, where there’s no telly, no stereo, no nothing. Maybe I’ll grow a big bushy beard and live on tins of soup and bottles of Volvic. If I get lonely I’ll talk to a tin of Oxtail and call him Oxy. Then we can play eye spy; though there are only so many varieties of soup you can get mind. Then I’ll arise, on 26th April; head to the Hub in London and party like its 1999, because this one’s going to be a fucking good one. Standard.
