Antiworld proudly presents (in association with Coast II Coast) Psychedelic Academy 005. YEESSS!! Those of you unfamiliar with Psychedelic Academy may think it’s a school where people trip off their nuts on mind-altering narcotics; you’ll be disappointed to learn that’s not the case. Others will be excited that it’s a night of trance, house, techno and the like. It all kicks off on the 4th May, Bank Holiday Sunday, which means you won’t have to worry about getting up the next day unless you work in a supermarket or a petrol station…
The event takes place at Brixton Academy and will feature a whole host of (trembling with excitement) international acts. Israeli trance luminaries Infected Mushroom will be there – LIVE! If you picture footage from the 90s of guys in baggy t-shirts, off their faces on cheap ‘Doves’ and dancing like victims of savage arse-rape, you’re halfway there… Hell, you’ll probably be like that when the night’s over.
One of the “pioneering psy-trance artistsof the millennium,” Astrix will also be performing live. The Russian born DJ has played to over 200,000, yes - 200,000 people at once, and cites the likes of Coldplay, yes – Coldplay as inspiration for his euphoric-funk sets. Psy-trance is where Astrix has made a name for himself though, so whatever you do, don’t take any Acid!
Next up, Eskimo will be performing, and yes, he’s also LIVE! There’s a really cool fact about this 21-year-old trance luminary that we just have to share. One of his greatest samples was of Police shutting down a free party. How cool is that? He’ll be joined by John 00 Fleming who’ll be launching his brand-spanking new album ‘Psytrance Euphoria’. Fleming’s one of the seminal DJ’s and producers and speaking of his album (and to give you an idea of what to expect) he commented: “Over the three CDs I want people to experience the journey through the Progressive elements of Psy and Morning Psy that I love dearly”. Arrr… Ain’t that sweet?
Also playing on the night will be Chris Liberator and Sterling Moss, best known for his ability to handle three decks simultaneously. And that’s not all! We’re assured there’ll be loads and loads of other DJs and artists there too; lovingly spread across four rooms with the finest sound system. I CAN’T WAIT! Words: Dave Dryden
