PLANETNOTION TELEVISION!
CAMERA-FOLK AND FILM EDITORS WANTED!
Planet Notion is looking for guys and dolls to film and edit features for its new TV channel, PNTV. Accompanying Notion to artist interviews, gigs, fashion shows, festivals and international events, you will be skilled, passionate and full of ideas about how to produce shit-hot video content. Camera-folk will be experienced and ideally have their own equipment, or at least access to equipment, while editors must be able to turn projects around quickly, and with stylistic flare. If you can both film and edit content, we would especially like to hear from you! These casual, unpaid positions would be ideal for those looking to develop their showreels, and to get the chance to travel, film major artists and top events.

We’re living in a café culture; a culture of sausage eggs and bacon (thrice) and doner kebabs (thrice times three). Usually followed by a tub of Haagen Dasz, a family sized coke and four tubes of Cheese and Onion Pringles. Oh, what woe! Trouble is, that getting fit is so ruddy boring. It’s like a Sunday afternoon, when you’re two weak to write, there’s nothing but rubbish on TV, you’ve got a tedious family meal to attend, you’ve been banned from drinking because you were on the lash the day before and… and… and… Enter Sony Ericsson’s Run To The Beat, which aims to make exercise interesting by adding 30 bands and artists into the equation. It’s for charity as well, so, you know, it’s basically the best idea since I considered handing in my notice. Run To The Beat is a half marathon, taking place in London this Sunday (October 5th). When the runners reach one of 16 points, they’ll hear some tippety-top, with some extra topping of top, live music playing. It’s kind of like a festival, only across half of London and without everyone getting tanked-up and bedding strangers. The event has been organized with Sony Ericsson’s partner, City Showcase, whose previous events in the capital include the London Music Festival, where the likes of Amy Winehouse, Hot Chip and Keane played. As well as acts that people instantly recognize, upcoming bands from around the nation are also going to perform. This includes the genre-bending upstarts, Imperial Leisure, who consist of 2 MCs, 1 singer, a Rhythm section and a Brass section. The band - who merge ska, rap and rock, have gained plaudits from the likes of XFM and Radio1. In a scientific twist, the tempo of the music is to be governed by Brunel University Academic, Dr Costas Karageorghis, who has over 20 years experience researching the link between sport and music. “We have been examining the demographic profile of athletes very carefully,” explains Dr Karageorghis, “to ensure the selection of live music acts span age groups and genders to provide motivational music that will inspire runners as well as spectators.” The unfortunate thing is that Run To The Beat has already sold-out. Boo and Hiss! But don’t go lynching us for failing to bring news to you sooner; for you can still get involved and raise money for charity, including official charity partner Leukaemia Research. The Smirnoff Electric Cabaret is hitting Manchester on November 27th. Sorry. Did I lack enthusiasm? Okay, I’ll try again. SMIRNOFF ELECTRIC CABARET IS HITTING MANCHESTER ON NOVEMBER 27TH!!! There, now I’ve got your attention. The Original Nights event returns with a host of cutting-edge tunes, from some of the most cutting-edge artists, alongside some of the most cutting-edge cabaret acts. In other words, its proper cutting-edge. Here’s a run-down of who’s going to be performing. Sam Sparro: He may look a bit like a lady-boy, but you can’t help but wiggle your buttocks like a cat when you hear his tunes. You know? When they’re trying to be all sexy and start rubbing against your legs and stuff like proper little tarts. Sparro’s debut album, Black & Gold, was dubbed the ‘disco anthem of the year’ and it’s easy to tell why. Pat Mahoney: He’s the guy nominated for two Grammy’s as part of electronic, dance-punk shebang, LCD Soundsystem. At the Smirnoff Electric Cabaret, Pat will be teaming-up with DFA Records label-mate Juan Maclean, for a super massive, bangin’ great, Acid House revival set - paying homage to the Roland synthesizers that revolutionized the power of the dance. Now try saying that with a whole Ikea hot dog in your mouth. Hard isn't it? Das Pop: The three-part Belgian, one-part Kiwi electro pop outfit, will be making just about everyone (which could/should include you) jump up, take notice and dance like a bandy-legged giraffe on forty cans of Red Bull and three dozen Es. Providing an equally formidable dance sensation will be Devil’s Gun , whose incorporation of everything from breakbeat and electro, to house and clunky synths, have gained them plaudits the nation over. As per-usual there’ll be a whole host of cabaret acts performing, although details are currently sketchy and acts are TBC. We know that previous cabaret acts included ‘man-becomes-6ft-balloon’. The clues in the name; the appropriately named Bruce Airhead literally becomes a 6ft balloon. Anyway, Smirnoff will carry on the tradition of a free drink on entry and invite revelers to choose a drink by scent, using a special ‘snifter’. Which is basically a hand-blown glass nosing tube. Oh and you’ll be invited to delve into a fancy dress box and transform yourself for the night into whatever is available. A horse? A prince? A massive donger? Who knows? We do know that the Smirnoff Electric Cabaret will definitely be a good’n. It always is. SHOCK HORROR! I’ve managed to get this weeks Be@Proud preview online way before it happens. Maybe it’s because I’m going on a break tomorrow and had to get it done. Maybe it’s because I’m genuinely excited about the night and had to tell the world. And maybe it’s because I’m so bloody brilliant at running this website. Ahem, so the world doesn’t read Planet Notion and I’m absolutely shit at running a website, but one-and-a-half out of three ain’t bad… So, once again, here’s a run-down of what you can expect to see at Proud Galleries on September 27th. First-up: Screaming Tea Party. No, not a scene from Alice in Wonderland, had Lewis Carroll’s opium indulgence been topped-up by several tabs of 60s finest, but a female drummer from London and, um... two lads from Tokyo. The Mad Hatter thing isn’t a bad analogy as it goes, because Screaming Tea Party sound like putting a bag of pills in a washing machine, sticking your head deep into the epicenter and playing hungry-hippos whilst it’s on spin-dry. We’re talking sweet psych-punk rhythms and lo-fi tunes that range from mouth-wateringly subtle to full-throttle satisfying. Delicious! Next-up: Munch Munch… The Bristol quartet are like that really deformed guy from the Goonies who had a strange infatuation with young fat boys. They’re so brutally ugly to listen to, you’d rather they were locked in a padded cell and fed through a letter-box. But you can’t help but love them anyway. Munch Munch produce their DIY sound in a bedroom, have been granted numerous Radio 1 sessions and have a new single out on November 26th. They’re also lauded as one of the most exciting live acts around. Two words: Excruciatingly brilliant! Finally: The Lovely Jonjo will be making the journey to Camden’s finest. We know very little about this chap, except that he likes: “A good time, a good loud noise, a good beat you can dance to, a good booze, a good beach, a good man, a good lady friend, a good booze, a good meal, a good family, Why put up with medium?” We need say no more. This is the last Be@Proud of September, but have no fear; I’ll be back next month with a preview of Be@Proud’s October schedule. This one’s literally just around the corner. As in next Thursday and Friday. As in we’re based in Shoreditch and so is Concrete and Glass. So, yep, it’s literally just around the corner. Anyway, it’s called Concrete and Glass and it’s set to be bloody massive! So massive that we’re going to keep this very short and very sweet and let the line-up do the talking. Which is totally unprecedented. But, as a one man team, Planet Notion has a shed load of crap to get through today, especially if I’m going to get my long overdue break at the end of the week. Anyway, I'll tickle your taste-buds with a few additions to Concrete and Glass, including the sexiest Swede since Sven-Goran Eriksson burst onto the radar, Lykke Li. Her electro-tinged, sweet-dripping pop is equally delicious. YUM! If David Bowie was American or something, he’d probably be the figure-head of Secret Machines. But he isn’t American and he isn’t their figure-head and they’re still great and much heavier and stuff, so happy days! Brighton’s finest, Fujiya and Miyagi, Dublin’s sublimest (sic), Fight Like Apes, and London's excellentist (double sic), Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man, will also be on hand to deliver their own bite of brilliance. Great gig news here. Langhorne Slim & the War Eagles are heading to the UK and Ireland as part of their European tour. After a heavy weekend of excess and near-death experiences I was kind of thinking I’d take things a little easy this week, but now I’m throwing that plan out the window like a grubby wank-sock! Langhorne Slim & the War Eagles bringing their old-school Americana and folk-rock beats to the UK and Ireland calls for celebration! Excess celebration! Brooklyn-born Slim’s self-titled album, a follow-up to 2005’s ‘When The Sun’s Gone Down’ and his first for Kemado Records, is in stores now. Be@Proud w/Ipso Facto. Proud Galleries. September 20th.

Yet again I’ve been really slow on the uptake. Sorry… I should have informed you about the next Be@Proud event at the beginning of the week or something, so that you could ALL go out and treat yourself to new pants or swanky deodarant and stuff. The fact of the matter is that I was so blown away by this Saturday’s Be@Proud line-up that I fainted, fell into the road, hit my head on a discarded can of energy drink, got spat on by a hoodie and had my leg squashed by a flat-bed truck. I’ve been in A&E all week and I think I’ve got MRSA because my cheeks have turned blue and my tongue has swollen to the size of a horse’s schlong! Anyway, the show must go on… Headliners at Be@Proud will be extremely attractive all girl posse, Ipso Facto. The London four-piece are kind of like a throw-back to a by-gone age of yore or something. Thing is, I can’t really place what era they fit into. I mean, there’s the occasional twinge of 50s doo-wop, 60s psychedelica, good old fashioned rock and everything in between… This can only be a good thing; it means that they’re completely different to any other girl band out there. And they have a thing about burlesque… And they shit all over the Spice Girls. Next-up: Bearsuit. John Peel was a big fan of the boy/girl six-piece from Norwich. This means that even if you haven’t heard their Artsy-Rock grooves, you’ll probably appreciate them. I mean, when did John Peel ever pull a wrong’n? Exactly! NEVER! Bearsuit have picked up accolade after recurring accolade this year, merging synth-laden beats with any instrument they can get their dirty mitts on, to create a kind of post-punk K-Hole experience. And you should see their live shows… Man, they dress-up as robots and everything. It’s well phat! Finally, Padded Cell will be making the trip to ye ol’ stables in Camden for a DJ set. Anyone who can use House music (albeit in small snippets) and still make me shake my rump like a Bangladeshi Belly-dancer, get a thumbs-up in my book. Padded Cell’s beats are smack-den dark-and-brooding, with everything from Brazilian samba vibes to 80s cop shows mixed in! They’ll make you feel like you’re wigging out and being attacked by giant puffer-fish, whilst simultaneously giving you an uncontrollable urge to do the robot. What more could you ask for? Screw the MRSA; I’m definitely heading down to Be@Proud.
