PLANETNOTION TELEVISION!
CAMERA-FOLK AND FILM EDITORS WANTED!
Planet Notion is looking for guys and dolls to film and edit features for its new TV channel, PNTV. Accompanying Notion to artist interviews, gigs, fashion shows, festivals and international events, you will be skilled, passionate and full of ideas about how to produce shit-hot video content. Camera-folk will be experienced and ideally have their own equipment, or at least access to equipment, while editors must be able to turn projects around quickly, and with stylistic flare. If you can both film and edit content, we would especially like to hear from you! These casual, unpaid positions would be ideal for those looking to develop their showreels, and to get the chance to travel, film major artists and top events.

Please email lucy(at)musichqmedia

TOUR STARTS FEBRUARY 17: The old hype monsters have been cranking it up on behalf of these St Albans noisesters. Hear them proclaim Enter Shikari to be everything from screamo to post-hardcore via techno-rock. Either way they make an almighty racket that will have your eyeballs popping out of your head, along with a crew of deranged young fans in tow who will quite happily stomp all over your deposed peepers. Check it out if you’re feeling brave enough or if you’ve had excessive amounts of White Lightening. TOUR STARTS FEBRUARY 1: There seems to be a surfeit of blood based bands touring this month. What should we derive from this? That music is getting more murderous? That bands are prepared to spill claret in order to have their rider demands met? Lord only knows. Either way, Blood Red Shoes are a boy/girl drums and guitar duo that deliver a sharp punch to the ribs of complacent bands and fans everywhere. To see so much energy generated by two such slight characters is pretty impressive, so God only knows what will happen when they hit the road with fellow Brightonians The Maccabees, who seem to act like an unhealthy dose of E numbers upon their excitable young fans. Those of you with a nervous disposition stay clear. The rest of you, bring your own Sunny D. TOUR STARTS FEBRUARY 2: Considering that early 2006 saw Corinne Bailey Rae tipped as the woman for the top (great live show, anodyne album), we should perhaps be thankful that the devil has reclaimed what is his own, putting some sex and sass back into our lives via the whiskey soaked incantations of Amy Winehouse. Having received innumerable plaudits for Back To Black’s rump shaking, charcoal filtered soul, Winehouse should see her position as Britain’s premier female artist cemented with this tour. Throw support from Mr Hudson and The Library into the mix and this promises to be the gig of the month in a town near you. It should all prove to be an intoxicating cocktail that we encourage you to binge on without shame. FEBRUARY 2nd -Shepherds Bush Empire, London 17th - Corn Exchange, Cambridge 18th - Guildhall, Southampton 19th - NME Awards Show, Astoria, London 21st - Birmingham Academy 23rd - Liverpool Academy 25th - Manchester Academy 26th - Northumbria University 27th - Glasgow Academy MARCH 1st - Ulster Hall, Belfast 2nd - Ambassador, Dublin 3rd - Octagon, Sheffield 5th - Rock City, Nottingham 6th - Cardiff University 8th - Shepherds Bush Empire, London 9th - Shepherds Bush Empire, London

TOUR STARTS MARCH 20: For those of you who like your music just a little bit on the demented and deranged side, you could do a lot worse than checking out the strangely beautiful and beguiling work of Kieren Hebden (AKA Four Tet) and Steve Reid. Having initially hooked up last year for 'The Exchange Sessions Vol. 1,' they pushed the boundaries of bedroom electronica into rarely explored regions of free jazz with great success and aplomb. The chemistry between these two chaps is an astounding thing, so their forthcoming tour should ensure that they continue to improve upon this pioneering sound, which will no doubt take on innumerable forms in the live arena. MARCH 20th - Phoenix, Exeter 21st - The Trinity, Bristol 22nd - Rescue Rooms, Nottingham 23rd - The Plug, Sheffield 24th - Academy 2, Manchester 25th - The Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh 26th - The Cluny, Newcastle 27th - Medicine Bar, Birmingham 29th - KOKO ,London 31st - Komedia, Brighton

Musicians seem to be unaware that there are actually other places in this country other than London, much to the detriment of music fans outside the capital. However, thanks to us kind folks at Notion giving you enough of a heads up, you can book your train ticket with plenty of time and take advantage of a supersaver deal. However, if you’re living in the capital, you can’t pay ahead and the tube ticket will probably cost the same as a return fair from Glasgow. Still, some good music at the end of your journey should make it all worthwhile. First of all, Airhammer , led by the Reverend Ben Smith (he really is a man of the cloth) and supported by the second Aaron Elvis I’ve ever heard of, will be showing why they are the most fantastically deranged rock act out there. Thankfully they believe that music should be kept ever so slightly unhinged. Dr Octagon , Kool Keith himself, is playing at the Jazz Cafe on the 22nd of March. The man is like the evil scientist of hip hop, and an evening in his company is to realise just how much many of today’s supposed hip hop stars lack. Continuing our journey through music’s more weird and wonderful realms, check out Blue Bambinos at Leonards on the 25th. This is a band who cook up a fantastic brew of off-kilter blues that will leave you wondering precisely what it is that they did to you, but being grateful either way. After all that, a trip to London-On-Sea is in order for the superbly sexy electo stylings of Dragonette . Brighton seems like the ideal place to host their sassy live show and we heartily recommend that you go. Dress appropriately though, you’re representing our good name. Until next time, stay safe out there, and if you should come across Towers Of London , remember that we’re all more rock and roll than them. MARCH 21st - Airhammer, The Ship, London 22nd - Dr Octagon, Jazz Cafe, London 25th - Blue Bambinos, Leonard’s, London 31st - Dragonette, Candy Bar, Brighton Words: Karl O Keefe

TOUR STARTS MARCH 15: Over the past twelve months there has been the emergence of a new type of futuristic psychedelia that is as much indebted to the sample savvy electronica community as it is to the acid-munching hippies of the 60s. Foremost amongst this new wave of astral travellers are LA expat Pop Levi and Edinburgh's resident head-twisters, The Aliens. The band have built a reputation over the past year as a formidable live act, brimming over with soaring pop melodies as well as an appetite for experimentation that ensures an evening of breathtaking boundary breaking. We should perhaps expect little else from a band that emerged from the remnants of The Beta Band, but with the release of debut ‘Astronomy For Dogs’ on March 19th, The Aliens are destined to abduct the minds of a whole new range of listeners. MARCH 15th - The Social, Nottingham 17th - Night & Day, Manchester 18th - Fleece, Bristol 19th - ULU, London 20th - Faversham, Leeds 21st - Cluny, Newcastle 23rd - Classic Grand, Glasgow 24th - Speakeasy, Belfast 25th - Crawdaddy, Dublin
