Patrick Wolf will celebrate the completion of his forthcoming album, Battle, with a string of gigs this March. The album features an on-running narrative, offering a voice of hope, from award winning actress Tilda Swinton. Wolf was interested in teaming up with Tilda after seeing her performance in the film Orlando. PlanetNotion hasn't seen the film, so we decided to read about it on Wikipedia. The basic story is that some guy called Orlando shacks up with Queen Elizabeth the First. Then Elizabeth dies and leaves Orlando some land and then Orlando decides to have a sex-change. Fuck knows why. Anyway, it must be pretty good because the All Movie Guide gave it four out of five. Speaking of the new album and going back on tour, Wolf said: “I'm so very excited to get back on the open road and onstage where I belong. These dates are just the first few warm ups to what will be a long and wonderful journey. “I am planning to present a whole new bigger production and vision to what I have delivered in the past... So be prepared for many surprises and new arrangements of the best from the last three albums... See you there.” Battle will be released through Wolf’s own record label, Bloody Chamber Music and funded via Bandstocks.com, the revolutionary website that allows fans to take a stake in an album's success by purchasing stocks for £10 a time. Wolf’s March dates will be preceded by a full UK tour this May. Pre-sale tickets are available through Bandstocks.com Patrick Wolf March Dates: Sun 8th Mar Colchester, Arts Centre Mon 9th Mar Gloucester, Guildhall Tue 10th Mar Cambridge, Junction Thu 12th Mar London, Heaven

YES! The time has finally come to dig out my Mother’s of Invention: Uncle Meat LP. Oh, shit, wrong event. I thought it was the magic mushroom party in that squatters flat in Skegness, with the out of date rye-bread, scattered mouse-traps and cordial lime that looks like piss; where somebody is guaranteed to freak out and cry: “FUCK MAN! WHY HAS MY HEAD GONE NUMB AND WHAT THE FUCK IS A SHREW DOING DRY HUMPING MY FOOT!” Thankfully, this event is a little tamer. And a hell of a lot more special! Once again, Jonny Awsum invites you to Bring Your Parents’ Records to Bar Vinyl, Camden. Taking place on the first Sunday of every month, the night does what it says on the tin. Attendees are invited to bring their parents’ records - borrowed records or even their own – and give them a spin on a turntable. No mixing skills required. Thankfully. Course, the beauty is that you get to hear some real obscure stuff and get introduced to bands and music that you never knew existed. Hell, who cares if it isn’t a trashy acid party? If you want to inflict Pink Floyd’s ‘Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun’ on the masses, that’s your prerogative; nobody will stop you. And, i f you don’t own any vinyls, which, let’s face it, you really should, you can purchase some from a second-hand record shop below the venue. Top notch, aye? On top of the regular people spinning their records, special guests – usually the sons or daughters of famous musicians , often turn up to spin their parents’ records; whilst a happy hour, snacks and a rock ‘n’ roll raffle - with prizes including a vinyl-frame, fake breasts and a pimped out hair-cut – take place at the event. O and did we mention that it’s absolutely FREE to enter!? Balls to it, let’s fuck with peoples brains and inflict ‘Barbie Doll’s Hysterectomy’ on their frazzled consciousness! Bring Your Parents’ Records Sunday 1st February From 3pm at… Bar Vinyl, 6 Inverness St. Camden, London, NW1 Tickets: FREE ENTRY! Bringyourparentsrecords.com

Ugh. Money. PlanetNotion hasn’t even received this month’s wages and we’re already f*cked when it comes to February. Alcohol can shield us from the steaming pile of cack the Money God is dropping on our sanity. Thing is, last time PlanetNotion got pissed in the office we were seriously reprimanded, so the show must go on in a state of sobriety. And when it comes to shows, Broad Casting - an event compiled by Karen P alongside the Red Bull Music Academy – presents one of the finest at London venue Cargo on January 29th. Broad Casting hosts live collaborations which are broadcast on the online radio service: Red Bull Music Academy Radio. Not only are artists brought together to perform for unique collaborations, but they’re brought together in intimate venues that heighten the energy and spirit one craves from a live performance. With the likes of ‘Jimi Tenor and Kabu Kabu’ and ‘Buraka Som Sistema and Micachu and The Shapes’ already under Broad Casting’s belt, the next line-up is set to be equally impressive, if not more so. Marking the first of four quarterly events this year, Broad Casting will host a collaboration between Tony Allen and The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Tony Allen is an innovator of the afro-beat drum sound, combining jazz-drumming with traditional African rhythm sounds. His legendary style is considered responsible for dance music beats, from the scenes emergence in the 70s through to the present day. More recently, Allen was drummer alongside Damon Albarn as part of award-winning group, The Good, The Bad and The Queen . The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble began playing on the streets of Chicago IL, before residing to New York and recording with artists including Mos Def and Erykah Badu. Consisting of 8 horn players - all of whom are sons of jazz musician Kelan Phil Cohran – and a drummer, the band release their debut album this Spring on Damon Albarn’s ‘Honest Jons’ label. With traditional instruments used to create a thumping, club sound, their collaboration with Tony Allen is sure to be a memorable experience. Providing support for Tony Allen and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble will be multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer song-writer, Elmore Judd. Another artist signed to the Honest Jons label, Elmore Judd’s electronic sound draws on soul and, since collaborating with Damon Albarn on an expedition to Mali, Judd’s latest release the Uborn Again EP draws heavily on an African sound. Finally, Malcolm Catto, whose band The Heliocentrics collaborated with Mulatu Astake at a previous Broad Casting event, will DJ on the night. Yet another artist signed to Honest Jons, Catto can be heard on The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s upcoming album release. Broad Casting founder, Karen P, will also DJ on the night. End Copy. Broad Casting and Red Bull Music Academy TONY ALLEN & HYPNOTIC BRASS ENSEMBLE Thursday 29th January 7pm – 1am CARGO, 83 Rivington St, Kingsland Viaduct, Shoreditch, EC2A 3AY Tickets: £9 (adv) To listen to podcasts and live music from the event, visit RBMAradio.com . January is a dog that licks your balls to keep you warm. You do what you’ve got to do in order to survive. With £1.60 in my pocket, I’m struggling to work out what to eat for lunch. I’ve been staring at Cod Liver Oil tablets on my desk and wondering whether downing all of them will fill the hole in my stomach, kill me or make me sick. I couldn’t deal with being sick. Recession, Recession, Recession. F*ck the recession, it has nothing to do with it. Meagre wages, the New Year hangover and the fact I haven’t been paid for 6 weeks has everything to do with it. Anyway, enough of the moaning, here’s Be@Proud’s 2nd birthday event on January 24th. 2009 is the year of electro-pop. What, with Lady GaGa at number one and all the newspapers spunking their pants over her tasty little arse, it’s little surprise that Be will bring Scandinavia’s biggest electro-pop export, Annie, to the Proud Galleries. Annie will take to the DJ booth on the night. Masked Liverpool band, Wave Machines, use everything from ukuleles and malletkats to electro-vibraphones and synth-bass on stage. The BBC described their music as TUNEFUL LO-FI ART DISCO. Not knowing a lot about them and wanting to draw my own conclusion, I checked out Wave Machines’ MySpace. In no more than 9 words, this was my first impression: Like being merry and high in a pixilated wonderland. London band, Shock Defeat, will shoot a heavy-load up your arse until you fidget-dance like a thalidomide in a bath-tub. Think 80s post-punk espresso, with a dash of new-wave cream and a sprinkling of erratic-dance sugar. Definitely ones to watch. Although, I said the same thing about Right Said Fred and look what happened to them. Come to think of it, what did happen to them? Curated by burlesque artist, Miss Vicky Butterfly, with music courtesy of market-stall holder Bioux’s rock ‘n’ roll jukebox, the South Gallery’s Non-Stop-Electric Cabaret has become a staple of the Be devotee’s diet. Resident DJs David H, John Power and Clemence Lachance will bugger your ears with a banana, grown on a tree fertilized by shit-hot electro, indie and disco manure. Be-at-Proud 2nd Birthday Saturday 24th January 8pm – 2.30am Proud Galleries, Horse Hospital, Stables Market, Camden, NW18AH Tickets: £8 (adv) £5 (b49) £10 (after) ticketweb.co.uk

Ugh. Work. All work and no play makes PlanetNotion want to drink copious booze and vent serious spleen. Thing is, that usually ends in disaster. With us kicking a desk or smashing CDs and being sent home from work; being stopped at the station by police whilst some guy rips an old man’s eye out with a tooth-pick, for failing to show "RESPEC" on the 3.20 to Brighton. That’s the grim reality of modern Britain. And that’s exactly the kind of sh*t Gallows like to explore! 2009 marks the eagerly anticipated release of the band’s second album. The follow-up to 2006’s ‘Orchestra of Wolves’ has been produced by GGGarth Richardson, who has worked with the likes of Biffly Clyro and Rage Against the Machine. Rather than bowing down and sucking the cock of Mr. Commercial and his big bag of bunse, the Watford hardcore-punk band will keep to the theme and style that gave them such a loyal following in the first place. Like we expected anything else, right? We’re talking a ‘kick-in-the-nuts and spit-in-your-eye’ mentality and a feral approach to hardcore punk, exploring the themes of Britain ’09; warts and more warts n’all. The band will celebrate the album release with a 15 date nationwide tour, traveling everywhere from the Sheffield Leadmill to the London Forum. Pre-order Tickets are available from Jan 14th exclusively for Gallows.co.uk subscribers only. All subscribers need to be signed up before Jan 14th. Visit everythingisfallingapart.co.uk for details! PlanetNotion returns with another preview. Twisted Licks returns with another event. They’re a winner, you’re a winner and I’ve got gut-ache because of that big bastard chilli I ate last night. Screw it. Once I’ve written about Twisted Licks’ QUALITY line-up I’m going to grab some literature, head to the toilet and let one go. Twisted Licks is far less brutal and sh*t than anything that passes through my system. The London club-night, which will take to new home The Macbeth, Shoreditch, on January 24th, has received plaudits from the likes of the London Lite, London Paper and Guardian Guide. Say. No. More. The next event will welcome James Yuill (live), Josh Weller (live) and Stealth Disco (DJ set). Now, being somewhat of a recluse I have absolutely no idea who James Yuill is. So I checked out his MySpace, listened to his upcoming single, No Surprise, and took a few notes. Here are the results: I’m getting an electro vibe. Woah. Now the guitar has entered the fray. It’s all sweet and melancholy and I’m starting to wobble on my chair like a spaced-out parrot bopping on its perch. Lyrics are nice and twee and now a female singer has entered the fray in a kinda “I feel the same way about you James, baby” sort of way. A song about yearning for a woman or guy you can’t stop thinking about; of dreaming about cooking them a beef stroganoff or feeding the crocodiles with them in the zoo; of walking hand in hand in a field of dandelions with nothing on but a pair of Y-fronts… but danceable and not remotely depressing. Plus the guitar vibe makes it accessible to people like me, who are afraid to dance and prefer to nurse a pint and nod their head like a weirdo in the corner. Top drawer. Sure, Yuill probably has far more in his repertoire, but that’s for you to find out at Twisted Licks. Like Yuill, Josh Weller has long been labelled as “ONE TO WATCH!” Once again, I checked out his MySpace. Here are the results: Hmmm, pretty whimsical stuff. This treads across the whole love vibe once again, making it fitting for people on a one-way path to self-destruction or who are happy with their load and like to listen to sweet sounding acoustic ballads containing lyrics to make you smile. His song ‘Tough Luck in Love’ is a more gypsy-style affair, whilst ‘What Will My Girlfriend Say’ contains lyrics that prove he’s just like every other guy. He wants the girls when they’re not around and f*cks things up when they are. Once again: Top drawer. Finally, Stealth Disco return to Twisted Licks with a throbbing electro mash-up set, to f*ck with your ears and squirt sweet juice all over your brain. End copy. Twisted Licks Saturday 24th January 8pm – 2am The Macbeth, 70 Hoxton Street, Shoredich , N1 6LP Tickets: £6 (CLICK HERE) Myspace.com/twistedlicks

PlanetNotion was in the pub the other day staring at these massive breasts. We didn’t want to stare but it was real difficult not to. They were just there . They were just beckoning . Even when we tried to count the number of empty pint glasses to avert our gaze, our eyes soon wandered onto the empty pint glass in front of those breasts . Then we were back to square one again. It was absolute murder. But good murder. Like drowning in a pool of tits. See, we’ve got tits on the f*cking brain!? Something else that PlanetNotion has on the brain is Be@Proud at Proud Galleries, Camden. Not because we’ll be going, because we won’t. It’s January and PlanetNotion gets paid crap money, so we’re skint. No, the reason we’ve got Be@Proud on our brain is because we wish we were going, instead of watching Ben Shepherd present the Krypton Factor or chomping on a lump of coal or whatever else it is we do. Thomas Tantrum have had the music press throwing compliments their way for quite some time. The Guardian described the UK four-piece as "a hot and sweaty hissy-fit, both guileless and knowing, frustrating and charming." Hmmm. PlanetNotion gave a track on their MySpace a listen. ‘Rage Against The Tantrum’ is all happy and sweet and makes you want to do a jig; then it goes all weird and sketchy and makes you gyrate like a beached trout. A fine example of disco-pop. Lily Allen is a huge fan too, apparently. Siren, Sirens hail from the UK and New York. They’ve been rated by London’s top indie-record store, Pure Groove, as one of the most exciting bands around. Once again, we went onto the bands MySpace and listened to a track called ‘Fate Appears’. They use all these modern techniques to create far-out synth sounds and voice distortions and stuff, but there seems to be something a tad more dirty and grungy about it. Probably because of the lyric: I need you like a hole in the head . Reckon we liked the song because PlanetNotion feels the same way about work… Finally, Still Flyin’ will play Be@Proud. The San Francisco duo play kind of whacked out pop. PlanetNotion hasn’t really given them a listen because our head-phones have just f*cked-up on us. Bitch-lickers! But with track-names including ‘Rope Burn’ and ‘Forever Dudes’, we’re guessing they’re a pretty wired pairing. Plus they’re from San Francisco, so they’re probably involved in some big hippy love-in and pray to a God called ‘Friar Vanesh’ or something. As per-usual the Non Stop Electric Cabaret will take-over the South Gallery, with regular burlesque host Miss Vicky Butterfly bringing some real nice burlesque action to the fray. Ah man, PlanetNotion’s getting visions of tits all over again. Music will be supplied by Bioux’s vintage rock n’ roll jukebox. Tantalising. And resident DJs David H, Clemence LaChance and John Power, will make sweet love to your ears with a mixed bag of electro, indie, disco and new wave. Mmmm… Be-at-Proud Saturday 17th January 8pm – 2.30am Proud Galleries, Horse Hospital, Stables Market, Camden, NW18AH Tickets: £8 (adv) £5 (b49) £10 (after) ticketweb.co.uk

Typical. PlanetNotion just finished the mother of blow-outs, losing a ton of money and a million brain-cells along the way, and what happens? A sh*t-load of post-New-Year nights come flooding our way, like the Play-Boy bunnies to a ten-inch schlong. Still, unlike PlanetNotion, you might have the ability to ‘SAVE’ your money and be able to attend the eagerly anticipated return of Twisted Licks, at legendary London venue The Borderline. Topping the bill will be Acoustic Ladyland, a four-piece incorporating sax, drum, bass and guitar; bridging the gap between punk/rock and jazz, whilst repeatedly giving your brain the sweetest f*ck ever. Sometimes PlanetNotion gets to thinking that: “We’ve reached the end of the musical landscape!” Then something comes along that makes you think: “No we bloody haven’t!” Acoustic Ladyland are a prime example. With countless celebrity fans, a rapidly-growing fan-base and a string of top awards under their belt – including Time Out’s Live Act of the Year, Jazzwise Magazine’s Album of the Year (TWICE!) and the BBC Jazz Award for Best Band, Acoustic Ladyland are reason alone to attend Twisted Licks. But the fun don’t end there; O no. Also making the trip will be Deathray Trebuchay, who claim to live on an abandoned pirate ship in the East-End docks of London. In a kinda ‘6 Degrees of Separation’ type scenario, Mercury nominated Acoustic Ladyland and Polar Bear drummer, Seb Rochford, produced Deathray Trebuchay’s new single, due for release later this month. PlanetNotion checked out the band’s MySpace page and they sounded like a South American jazz-band... if they were raised by Romanian Gypsies on a diet of mescaline and 'death-of-the-70s' punk-rock. Top drawer! Getting feet a-tapping and legs a-shaking will be Nico Perez, a DJ famed for his monstrous mash-ups. He’ll be spinning a ton of tunes with a 100% guarantee of either freaking you out, or making you get your freak on. It’s all happening on Saturday January 17th at London’s Borderline; the last event before Twisted Licks takes up residency at Shoreditch venue The Macbeth. Tickets are selling fast, so get your arse in gear! Here are the details: Twisted Licks Saturday 17th January The Borderline, Orange Yard, Off Manette Street, W1D 4JB 7pm – 10.30pm Tickets: £12 ( CLICK HERE !)

Very few things excite Planetnotion. Maybe it’s because our office is so dour… well, sometimes anyway. There aren’t really that many posters on the wall, we don’t have a microwave and pranks go down about as well as the NYPD at a Cocaine convention. The one time Planetnotion played a prank, which involved tomato ketchup, the boss’ desk and almost every square centimeter of the surrounding floor, walls and ceiling, we were given a right old bollocking. Twas almost the end of a beautiful relationship. Anyways, enough of the rambling, it’s time to cut to the chase. One thing that we’re all dead excited about (well, mildly so) is the announcement that Beyonce will be embarking on a 2009 European tour. Yeah, it follows the release of new album, I Am Sasha Fierce and the number one single, If I Were a Boy . It also follows an appearance by Beyonce on the X-Factor, which featured a duet with the shows winner Alexander Burke. Anyway, here are the dates: BEYONCÉ'S "I AM" WORLD TOUR 2008 - EUROPEAN DATES Sun 26-Apr Zagreb, Croatia Arena Tue 28-Apr Vienna, Austria Stadthalle Wed 29-Apr Budapest, Hungary Arena Thu 30-Apr Prague, Czech Republic O2 Sat 2-May Rotterdam, Holland Ahoy Tue 5-May Paris, France Bercy Wed 6-May Strasbourg, France Zenith Thu 7-May Antwerp, Belgium Sportpalais Fri 8-May Berlin, Germany 02 Sun 10-May Herning, Denmark MCH Arena Mon 11-May Gothenburg, Sweden Scandinavium Wed 13-May Stockholm, Sweden Globen Fri 15-May Koln, Germany Arena Sat 16-May Zurich, Switzerland Hallenstadion Mon 18-May Lisbon, Portugal Atlantico Tue 19-May Madrid, Spain Palacio Desportes Wed 20-May Barcelona, Spain Palau St Jordi Sat 23-May Birmingham, UK NIA Mon 25-May London, UK The 02 Wed 27-May Manchester, UK MEN Fri 29-May Dublin, Ireland The O2 Sun 31-May Belfast, UK Odyssey Arena For tickets CLICK HERE !!!
