Been having one of those weeks where I get all philosophical and wonder just how vast the Universe is and question what I’m doing with my life and shit. Thing is, it isn’t even a come-down.
I mean, I was only drinking heavily this weekend, nothing major. 50 hours was all. Still, I think I’m over the booze demons. I think the last of their haunting was when the Fox started mauling my shoulder and mum rushed in, shook me and told me it was: “Just a dream, son; just a dream”.
I think this dark, gloomy depression must be God’s way of saying: “YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE TO BE@PROUD, YOU FOOL” or “YOU SHOULD GO TO BE@PROUD THIS WEEKEND, YOU NUMPTY!”
Well, something like that.
Hell, one look at the line-up and I make the big man right. Yet again Be@Proud has pulled out all the stops. First-up we’ve got one of the finest remix DJs to emerge from the ol’ – “eels, pies, saveloys and trotters” – East End of London.
I refer of course to Radio1’s newest DJ, Kissy Sell Out. The anticipation for Kissy’s debut album has been huge since he started on the London circuit - before taking the whole ruddy nation by storm! The Graphic Design graduate’s talents have earned him accolades from some of the industries finest. Little surprise; Kissy’s sound is fresher than a spring daisy and sicker than Pat Butcher doing a curry-dump in a shallow puddle.
Supporting Kissy Sell Out will be near neighbours the Rogues, who are the equivalent of a very heavy day and night and week on the tiles, skipping from venue to venue and pub to pub and not quite knowing if you’ll be faced with some funky electro beats or some good ol’ fashioned pub-pop fodder. Hailing from Harrow, Rogues have only played a few gigs together, already garnering a reputation and a string of live dates under their belts.
Fresh on the American scene, James Pants has been turning heads with his friggin-far-out-sound, man. Pants’ tunes are far from his namesake, his beats dripping with everything from new wave and R&B to post-punk disco.
Hip-hop’s newest big-name, Dels, will also be making the trip to Camden. The 23-year-old has already been signed to hip London label, Moshi Moshi and is set to release an album with Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard early next year. O and lest we forget, Be resident DJ, David H and resident VJ ,(the fabulously named) Hagpop Matossian, will be on hand for another dose of bad-arse beats and mind-fucking visual displays.
PHEW! Got there eventually. And if that bloody fox creeps up on my dreams again and starts munching my shoulder or my cock or something, I’m going to kick him right out the window – smashed glass or no smashed glass, because there’s no way I’m missing this one…
