Just went to get some coffees.

Not the nicest task on a hot day, when you’ve been wedged between a sweaty old man and a hefty woman on the morning train.

As we were walking back that thing happened; the last thing a guy wants at 9.37am when damp is rising under his pits and the hairs on his crack are beginning to itch.

One of the coffees spilt in our hands! Scolding coffee, trickling down our arm and onto our crotch!

The sun was burning, our hands were burning and our brain began to steam. Welcome to the sh*t-stream, baby; buckle yourself in because it’s going to be a rocky ride.

Still, the sun is a welcome addition when you’re hitting the festivals. Man and woman, one and all, dressed in next to nothing at all...

ROCKNESS

One such festival is Rockness, taking place from Friday 12th – Sunday 14th June in the beautiful surroundings of Loch Ness, Scotland.

It’s a nice eclectic line-up of dance, indie and rock acts, featuring The Prodigy, Erol Alkan, Orbital, Placebo, Biffy Clyro, Basement Jaxx, Dizzee Rascal and Super Furry Animals.

As a break from the norm, Planet Notion is going to bring you our pick of alternative areas to check out if you’re heading to Rockness ’09.

SOCO SOCIAL

Following a stint on the festival circuit last year, Southern Comfort will bring their New Orleans vibe to Rockness with the return of SoCo Social.

SoCo Social will be bringing together the finest acts on the electronic music scene on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the Rockness festival!

Lucky you.

By day the area will take inspiration from the smoky bars of New Orleans, with added twists to bring it into the new millennia and set the party going.

A glow-stick chandelier will hang whilst the dance floor will be surrounded by bespoke wallpaper, decadent mirrors and places to chill and take in the views of Loch Ness.

By night, the SoCo Social area will reel in the crowds with projection screens, neon signs and an LED light trail leading to the Loch. Pure party bliss, we’re sure you’ll agree.

On Friday the SoCo Social area will welcome a live set from the Dub Pistols, with a Cagedbaby DJ set, Killer Kitsch, Clancy and Giles Locker providing support.

Saturday will see Scottish star Mylo take to the decks, a Filthy Dukes live set, Infadels, Alex Metric, Living in a Disco and Firas gracing the SoCo stage.

Sunday will round things off with an ultra-rare, ultra-exclusive and ultra-special disco set from LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and Pat Mahoney.

Support will come from Yousef, Leatherhead and Herve.

RIZLA INVISIBLE PLAYERS

Like SoCo Social, the Rizla van and its band of Invisible Players graced many a festival last year, proving a popular addition to the circuit.

With Graeme Park, Annie Nightingale and Greg Wilson among those to grace the Rizla stage last year, Rizla are stepping things up a gear in 2009 with a new look and bigger arena.

Playing from a revamped replica of the original Rizla touring van of the 1920’s, this year’s official Invisible Players and a host of guests will play spontaneous, unplanned sets from their diverse record collections.

With Rockness taking place in Scotland, Rizla will feature a Scottish contingent of Invisible players over the three days of the festival, including The Revenge, Beta Band’s Steve Mason and Maelstrom.

Friday’s headliner will be a legend of his field, a statement more than befitting of Funky Dread and Soul II Soul founder and OBE, Jazzy B. Support will come from Heavenly Jukebox, Auto Disco and The Revenge.

Saturday will welcome Hinterland’s Mike Oman, a Micachu DJ set, Steve Mason, Den Haan, Maelstrom and an Invisible Player from Furry Sounds: a Super Furry Animals DJ set.

Finally, Sunday will see David Shrigley, Heavenly Jukebox vs Disco Deviance, Toddla T & MC Serocee, Jon Carter, Riton and Andrew Weatherall grace the Rizla van.
