Lou Reed to be keynote speaker at SXSW
Lou Reed to be keynote speaker at SXSW

Lou Reed has been announced as the keynote speaker for next years South by Southwest Music Festival in Texas.

The former Velvet Underground star and acclaimed solo artist, will deliver his keynote speech in conjunction with the premiere of Berlin, a documentary film about his recent performances of the landmark 1973 album.

The tragic tale of a doomed couple amid themes of drug use and depression, Berlin received poor reception on release for breaking the mould of the self-titled Lou Reed album and the glam-rock tinged Transformer.

However, the album is now viewed as one of Reed’s finest works, resulting in a critically acclaimed album tour earlier in the year; an ambition of the solo-artist since it's release over thirty years ago.

The South by Southwest festival takes place from March 12th to March 16th, featuring 1,500 acts and workshops. ‘Lou Reed’s Berlin’ documentary film was directed by Julian Schnabel.
