01/05/2008 One’s a Brit and Grammy award-winning artist and producer. The other’s a band who sung such hits as 'A View to A Kill’ and ‘Rio’. We are of course referring to Mark Ronson and 80s heart-throbs Duran Duran following the news that both will collaborate at the Smirnoff Experience event in Paris on the 2nd of July.
The exclusive, invite-only performance will include versions of the band’s classic hits reworked in Ronson’s own inimitable style. "Duran Duran are one of my favorite bands, period,” commented Ronson.
“The level to which they combined melody, groove, sonic and style has yet to be outdone. Plus, they were the only band I ever idolized to the extent of having posters, tour videos, Smash Hits stickerbooks, and all sorts of embarrassing things”. Blimey!
Ronson has already started laying tracks down for the performance with Duran Duran’s four original members Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor. Ronson has regularly been in contact with his school -boy idols and both he and the band have spent time together in the studio.
Ronson even claimed that he “used to take a picture of John Taylor with me to the barber shop, in the hope that they would be able to duplicate his signature coif onto my tiny head”. Double blimey!
The Smirnoff Experience program of events will take place in Moscow, Shanghai, New York City, and Paris throughout the year. The annual event celebrate the brands ‘heritage and originality’ with one-off collaborations and ‘unique interactive entertainment’.
Duran Duran’s lead singer, Mark Le Bon, commented: “Mark (Ronson) is without doubt a naturally gifted artist and producer and one of the most exciting talents to have emerged in recent years. He’s taking popular music in a new, exciting and fresh direction, for which we can all give thanks. He looks great in a well cut suit, has the blood and the voice of an Englishman”. Triple blimey.
Other acts taking part at the Paris event include French electro label Ed Banger, and Smirnoff Experience resident DJ Tom Middleton collaborating with classical pianist Maxence Cyrin. For one last time, we offer you, a farewell BLIMEY!
