17/07/2009 Truck Festival has been a favourite of your editor’s for eons, for absolutely no reason he can put to paper. He’s never even been. It’s just that, like Secret Garden Party, Truck is an honest festival. It existed before the festivals-and-gigs-and-mobile-phones zeitgeist that’s turned the majority of them into tediously similar rituals of dutiful, unimaginative hedonism.
This year is Truck’s twelfth! That means it existed before you even knew what music was, or something. It is still today, as it always has been, a quaint little family affair in the Oxfordshire countryside with vicars serving ice cream and the Rotary Club providing food. It is a deliciously charming DIY affair filled with indie and whimsy, drinking and dancing; it is a place to forget you ever heard the phrase “experiential marketing” or knew what a T-Mobile was. A place to make out like it’s 1999, if you will. But in the opposite sense to what Prince meant. Put it this way: Ash and Supergrass are headlining.
Our particular picks include former Can weirdo Damo Suzuki, Rabbit Foot Spasm Band [who we’ve never heard of, but with a name like that are bound to be brilliant awful] and the seriously so good why we don’t talk about them more I don’t know Wild Beasts.
HERE ARE THE DETAILS!
