| 'Beach Boy' Brian Wilson returns to EMI! |
| 20/05/2008 |
![]() One of the troubled geniuses of sixties rock n pop, Brian Wilson yesterday announced a return to EMI, the label he first called home.
When 65-year-old Wilson made the announcement, EMI probably breathed a huge sigh of relief, before muttering: “God only knows what I’d be without you”.
For times have been pretty bad for a label that once claimed the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and of course the Beach Boys on their roster.
Recently, EMI have been dogged by falling CD sales and financial problems, due largely to the online download privacy boom – sparking rumours that Wilson could be the labels ‘Knight in Shining Armour’.
Singer and composer Wilson will be releasing the first album since his return, ‘That Lucky Old Sun’, in September. EMI have described it as a “musical love letter from Southern California”, with the music interspersed with the spoken word.
The Beach Boys released their first smash-hit, Surfin’ Safari, under EMI1, who yesterday dubbed Wilson's return a “triumphant homecoming”. We second that. |
