Ronnie Scott's to celebrate 50 years with all-Brit Jazz Fest
Ronnie Scott's to celebrate 50 years with all-Brit Jazz Fest
01/07/2009

Everything that we don’t like has a purpose. Take the bee. The bee is a pain in the arse because if it flies near you, there’s a 40% chance of getting stung.

Course, the percentage may be a little less and it may be a little more. Fact is that these small details are unimportant. We need the bee for pollination and the survival of mankind.

Then you’ve got technology. Again, a real pain in the arse. Our computer has been running like a paraplegic on a bed of nails this morning; sometimes we wonder, what’s the point in technology?

Things were better when man had a typewriter and a printing press. ‘Cept of course we work for a website and you wouldn’t have websites if you didn’t have computers.

Although maybe that would be a good thing, because we wouldn’t be sitting here sweating our nuts off on a thoughtless quest to nowhere.

But Jazz!? Jazz has a purpose. Jazz enables you to experience life outside your thought control; to get lost in the music; to become one with the music. Something like that, anyway.

Ronnie Scott’s, the famous Jazz club first opened 50 years ago in 1959, will celebrate its anniversary with a double-bill of talent every night from August 1st – 15th.

Back when it first opened, the London Jazz club could only book British artists due to an MU ban on overseas musicians.

And 50 years later, Ronnie Scott’s will celebrate its milestone by booking a bill of all-British Jazz talent for the Ronnie Scott’s British Jazz Festival 2009.

From well known names including Courtney Pine and Julian Joseph, through to cutting edge bands including Polar Bear and Get the Blessing (pictured), over 100 musicians will be exploring the British jazz scene.

In addition, Britain’s most famous jazz joint is offering a year’s membership to ANYONE who can guess the link between ALL the bands playing the festival.

And that’s not all: With it being Ronnie Scott’s 50th year, offering a special 50:50 pass to the festival for only £50, giving an amazing discount of 50% on tickets.
