This year’s V festival line-up was undoubtedly one of the best in years. With Radiohead, Fatboy Slim and Faithless amongst the headliners and tickets selling out within hours, expectations were high for the 100,000 who headed to Chelmsford and Staffordshire this weekend. Radiohead were playing to please, as well as some new tracks, a number of old songs made the set list with a rare airing of ‘Creep’ for an encore.
Legend Norman Jay treated fans to an early dose of carnival rhythms in the Bacardi B-Live tent at lunchtime on the Sunday and was followed by the explosive Loose Cannons – a pair notorious for their riotous performances who had the whole place literally shaking. For those already warmed up with these fantastic DJs the focus of the day could only be one thing: Faithless. Singer Maxi Jazz cast his hypnotic spell over an enormous crowd and as the sun went down the masses went crazy to tunes including ‘Insomnia’. The night ended for many with the packed Groove Armada set. Elsewhere Razorlight’s Johnny Borrell strutted on the Channel 4 Stage and Morrissey headlined the Main Stage with a fantastic performance including solo material and Smiths favourites like ‘Girlfriend in a Coma’ against an enormous backdrop image of Oscar Wilde. Whatever fans had gone to see, the ridiculously star packed line-up of this festival couldn’t fail to impress!
